5 Reasons Snow Days As A College Student Are The Best Kind Of Days

Snow isn't always bad, it definitely has it's perks

5 Reasons Snow Days As A College Student Are The Best Kind Of Days

If you live in a climate that receives snow, you've probably had school, work, and other things canceled because of this inconvenient white stuff. While authority figures hate to cancel, everyone has to admit that the "free day" gained is always appreciated.

Getting a snow day at KU is nothing short of a miracle. Ask most alumni and they will tell you just how few snow days they had in their time here. I am at the end of my sophomore year, and yesterday I had my fourth snow day at KU. Every time I get that "class is canceled" e-mail, I get the same rush as I have since I was a kid.

Here are just a few reasons that snow days are the best days.

1. They make you feel like a kid again

Giphy

We may not always be in elementary school, but when a snow day rolls around, you can't help but feeling that same child-like joy you did when you were seven. It doesn't matter if you're in high school, college, or an adult, we all feel that same amount of excitement.

2. They create spontaneous adventures

Giphy

When I was in middle school, my friends and I used to convince our parents to drive us over to one person's house so we could have a snow day sleepover.

Now that I'm in college, the snow day possibilities are endless. In the morning, you can sled down Campanile Hill, then go out with your friends and party the free day away. You see all of your long-lost friends and catch up with them in a way you couldn't if there was school.

3. They get you out of responsibilities

Giphy

For some college students, going to class at all is too much responsibility. For others, the weight is lifted when the homework that was due tomorrow is delayed for two more days at least AND that crazy professor won't have a chance to assign more.

Whatever the case, throw your backpack down, get out there, and have some fun!

4. The ugly winter landscapes are pretty now

Giphy

Winter is the worst time of year for a lot of reasons. One of them is the constant eyesore of dead grass, bare trees, and wilted plants.

Snow might be awful for all other operating purposes, but it sure does look pretty!

5. It feels like you are pulling one over on authority

Giphy

Nothing is better than school being canceled on the day you had class with the professor who gives the most ridiculous homework, has a bad attitude, and sucks at lecturing. It's truly the academic version of a kid coming up to you saying "nana nana boo boo."

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
