Regardless of whether you've known your future roommate for your whole life, a few months, or not at all, living with someone completely new can be terrifying. You may feel excitement, you may feel nervous, or you may just feel overwhelmed at the thought of sharing your personal space with someone different. The good thing about this feeling is that it takes over everyone's thoughts at some point, and the best thing that you can do is go with the flow.
Dear Future College Roommate,
Throughout this letter I have compiled a list of things that you need to know. Some things that I want to thank you for in advance, and some things that I absolutely cannot wait for. I could not be more excited to share this year with you, and I have high hopes that it is going to be the best year of my life yet.
I want you to know that just like you, I'm so ready, but also so scared for this year. I stress over everything, and when I stress, I cry. Like the kind of crying where your human face suddenly looks like a pug. I hate coffee, but know I am going to become addicted after those early morning classes this year. Oh, and by the way, you're going to hate me when we wake up because I am NOT a morning person.
First of all, I want to thank you for putting up with me and all my complaining. It's one of my best talents, but I'm hoping I can work on that this year. I want to thank you for comforting me over a stupid boy that I will probably become sad about or mad at. Let's be honest, that will probably happen more than once this year. Thank you for helping me out when I'm sick even though I will probably be the grossest human being on the planet. I know I'll nitpick our room and certain situations, but thank you for not getting too annoyed with me. Thank you for putting up with my mood swings and bitchy moments, and God forbid we have them at the same time. Most of all, that you for being my best friend and my home base throughout the entirety of this year.
Now, for the best part, there are so many things that I'm excited for. The pictures, the memories we'll make, the nights spent holding each other's hair back while we're throwing up. I probably won't be excited for that last one when the time comes, but for now we'll go with it. I can't wait to swap clothes, party with my best friend, and pig out on junk food and ice cream on the nights where we're too cool (or tired) to go out. I'm excited for the late night Wawa trips, the endless amounts of Oreos, and the awesome stories that will come out of this year together.
Thank you so much for being you. Thank you so much for choosing me. I can't wait to be the best "us" that we can be.
Love,
Your Future Roommate
