College Professors Have to Stop Forcing Their Opinions On Their Students

If a student has a different opinion, don't change it; respect it.

College Professors Have to Stop Forcing Their Opinions On Their Students

College professors are supposed to be neutral. They are supposed to be open-minded and respect opinions of all of their students. They of course are entitled to their own opinions, but that does not give them the right to force their opinions down their students throats. I go to a predominantly liberal college, and as a student with a right leaning perspective, many of the professors that I have have forced their opinions on me and I know I'm not the only college student who faces this problem.

Many students who having opposing opinions against their professors do not do well in their classes. Students' opinions are taken into consideration when their professors are grading their work. From personal experience, I wrote two different essays my freshman year; one with a liberal perspective and another with a conservative perspective. My liberal perspective essay got an A while my conservative essay got a C.

My opinions should not be taken into consideration while grading my work. That is completely biased and immoral in a profession that requires neutrality and open mindedness. I am not the only student who's faced this issue; many of my friends have faced this issue as well. As professors, their job is to help students open their minds to new ways of thinking and to see things with a new perspective. This requirement does not give professors the rights to take opposing opinions into consideration while grading students work.

College is a time for self-exploration; to see what you like, what you don't like, how you think, and how you view the world. It's not a time for professors to shove their personal opinions on their students. And, it is completely inappropriate to take differing opinions into consideration while grading students work.

Not all college professors are this narrow-minded; many of them are very open and play the devil's advocate in classes, making it that much harder to find out their opinions. However, there are those professors who force their personal opinions upon their students and take opposing viewpoints into consideration while grading work.

Students have the right to believe what they want, and professors also have this right. However, the difference is professors can control how students do in classes, therefore giving professors more power over the student. Students are judged by professors for differing opinions, in turn hurting the students' grades. This needs to stop. Professors have to stop shoving their opinions on their students, let their students think how they want, and overall do their job better.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
