I get it -- you’re over lists of tips and ideas on how to improve your life. However, college girls reading this you will look back in a few years and think to yourself, “wait, that’s an awesome life tip but I can’t remember where I have heard it before.” Right here, sweetheart. Just read through the first few and if you think the advice won’t get better think again.
- Never expect a man to pay for dinner. At some point in your life; first date or not you will be asked to split the check.
- Yes, those men exist and no they were not trained on how to be proper gentlemen. However, stay polite no matter how disrespectful someone is to you, it is possible to tear someone down in a polite manner.
- Surprise men every once in a while and treat them to dinner, it’s a change of pace and it’s nice showing them that you’re an independent woman who provides for herself.
- Compliment your man; boost their ego a little bit, but not too much.
- Go abroad. Just do it. I’ve met countless adults in the real working force world tell me that not studying abroad in college was their biggest regret. It will mature the hell out of you and let’s be realistic for a minute; we all could mature a little.
- Call your mom. Call your Dad. Call your grandma. Regularly. Sometimes life takes us by storm and we forget to appreciate what is right in front of us in our crazy busy lives. Just a quick ten minutes to say hi, I miss you; this is what I’m doing today. College ladies, take note this is directed towards you.
- Do not rely on a man to take care of you. Honey, you can do bad all by yourself, and you can do it all on your own if you put your mind to it. Find a man that respects that in you.
- Don't be bitter. You are a lady; you handle those situations with class. No Carrie Underwood as much as we would like to dig our keys into the side of his four-wheel drive we can’t without some awful repercussion. Relationships suck and things happen and people cheat, lie and steal. The best revenge is to show that you are above the nonsense and your life will go on. No woman wants to have the title “my crazy ex girlfriend,” or wants to be remembered as “Oh, that’s the psychotic girl making a scene at the bar the other day.” Vent to your girlfriends about it later, go do some physical activity to get rid of your frustration, and then build a bridge and move on with class.
- If you have an “adult sleepover” and your significant other is nice enough to give you their article of clothing to bum around in for the day or night, fold it up when you’re done wearing it. It’s just a nice gesture to show you’re not a slob, yes ladies that includes at the fraternity houses; don’t add to their clutter.
- You don’t have to eat, breathe and live sports but you should know the difference of offense and defense and what an ERA is in baseball. Basics ladies, that way when you get asked out on that date and you can finally wear that cute baseball hat in the back of your dresser you don’t look clueless when your man talks sports.
- Keep Band-Aids on you at all times. Those heels will not break in until you break skin first. Beauty is pain.
- Get your freaking hair out of your face.
- When you are talking to someone important or someone you are trying to impress outside, take your sunglasses off and make eye contact with the person you are conversing with, it establishes a much better connection between the two of you.
- Yes you may get a little rowdy with your girls on Tuesday Ladies nights. However, you can be classy drunk without being that freshman throwing her dinner up outside. Class and Sass is the mantra.
- Be nice to girls. We’re all in this together. (Que the High School Musical song now)
- Beauty and Brains. Your schooling comes first. Your education, your professionalism is your top priority (Kidding family trumps all) and everything else will follow behind it. This makes for your ability to be independent and support yourself and men like a bad girl boss, it's sexy.
- If you sleep with someone on the first date due to some crappy tequila choices, you are a lady first thing in the morning. Get a car, get a cab, and do not do the walk of shame home. If the guy doesn’t get that car or cab, he doesn’t get a second opportunity to spend time with you. Done, did, over.
- Work with what your momma gave ya. Body Acceptance is key to every confident, classy, woman.
- Above all else, red wine cures all (splurging is okay) and mom is always right.
Good luck in all of your classes and I hope this guide has a few useful tips on how to be classy and sassy.
