Dating in college SUCKS. Everyone seems to be too selfish to care about another person for an extended period of time. In some stages of life that's fine and even necessary, but it seems to be everyone's excuse these days. Regina Mills, or the Evil Queen from Once Upon a Time known for trying to kill Snow White and cursing everyone, perfectly describes what it feels like to attempt to date in college.
To get through college dating, you may have to have a drink first.
It's hard to accept in the age of "talking" that we have to resort to despicable places like Tinder just to meet somebody. Where do you even meet a good person anymore??
Maybe it isn't even worth it to put yourself out there to the average college student.
You're annoyed with yourself that deep down you still want to try.
Because it is nice to have someone sometimes.
So heed many warnings and be careful of the people you let into your life.
Because you will go out on dates and experience putting yourself out on a limb, which will make you feel extremely out of your element.
Like when someone actually asks you out.
You eventually give in and agree to go on a date. You almost don't even understand why they want to go out with you in the first place.
But the night of the date you feel even more out of your element when you have to change because your roommates think your outfit is too much.
But you don't like what they recommend.
Or how annoying it is when they give you a sketchy excuse to cancel on you and you have to be polite and understanding about it.
When on the inside you're thinking how you could have possibly screwed up already.
Or when you actually go on the date and you realize you're starting to catch feels.
And then you realize that they are into you too. You feel so good about yourself.
You even introduce that person to your friends and maybe a close family member.
For a while everything is PERFECT.
But soon enough your friend sees them out with someone else. She tries to be a good friend and tells you about it.
Your first instinct is to get a little fired up and angry.
But you realize you don't have all of the information.
So you decide to give them the benefit of the doubt and ask questions.
Until you realize that after you decided to be nice and give them a chance with you, they turned around and played YOU.
They makes some lame excuse about commitment and being young.
You're just so over it.
You don't understand why they even pulled you in if they were just going to forget about you so soon.
You want them to rue the day they hurt you.
But your roommates/sorority sisters/close friends are there for you no matter how minuscule the relationship was and it makes everything better.
The sadness sets in and you realize you're more upset about the game than you are about the player.
You feel like crap for a while.
Eventually you come to peace with it and decide to show them how wrong they were for leaving you behind.
Because anyone who lets you go is planning their own funeral. Their loss.
You now know more about about yourself from the experience.
As much as you go through this seemingly pointless cycle, you acknowledge the lessons you've learned from each short or long-lived relationship.
