College Clothing Staples You Need To Battle New England Weather

If you have been following my back-to-college themed articles, then welcome back. As a college student and life-long resident of Massachusetts, let me tell you that weather here is a bit bipolar. And if you are an incoming freshman or a student coming here from somewhere outside of Massachusetts or New England, here is my ultimate list of clothing you will need to survive the school year.

1. Layers, layers, layers.

Especially during the fall months, you never really know what you are going to get as far as the weather is concerned. The mornings can be pretty chilly, while the afternoons tend to be warm in the sun. Also, you always want to be prepared for classrooms that are hotter/colder than you would prefer.

2. Sunglasses.

You wouldn't believe how many people forget to pack sunglasses for college. Especially if you have a long walk between classes, these will definitely come in handy. I don't go anywhere without sunglasses, because you never know when the sun is going to make an appearance.

3. Rain gear.

I can't stress enough how necessary a raincoat, some sort of waterproof shoe, and an umbrella. You are not going to be a happy camper if you have to walk across campus in soaking wet, soggy sneakers. And you don't have to spend a fortune, either. I bought simple gray rain boots from Target for $20. That's pretty good.

4. A combination of pants.

I'd say bring a couple of pairs of shorts for August and September, some shorts if you exercise, a few pairs of jeans, leggings, and sweatpants. Pants are the kind of thing you can wear more than once before you wash them, so just don't overdo it.

5. A combination of shoes.

Besides the obvious water-proof shoe, bring a pair of sneakers, one nice pair of heels/wedges, a pair of sandals, and maybe another pair or two of shoes you wear often. Just keep in mind the amount of walking you have in a day.

6. A winter jacket.

This is not debatable. No matter how much you loathed wearing a winter jacket in high school or as a kid, you are going to be miserable if you do not buy a warm winter jacket.

7. Snow boots.

Same deal. You are going to need them.

8. A hat, gloves, and a scarf.

And besides, it's a must-have anyways if you go to a hockey school :) Hope this helped!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
