The Top 5 Coffee Spots In Pittsburgh

Yinz like coffee? I know I do.

Well lucky you, Pittsburgh has been named one of the top five cities for coffee lovers! Pittsburgh is in a strong forth place. Only Portland, OR, Seattle, WA and Minneapolis, MN beat Pittsburgh out of the number one spot.

What can't coffee cure is the real question? To me, nothing. How can you go wrong with an iced coffee from Dunkin Donuts or a caramel macchiato from Starbucks?

There are many chain coffee shops. They are a dime a dozen. They do not offer much outside the normal cups of subpar caffeine filled, over sugary beverages. The vibe you get when walking into one of these chain coffee shops definitely is not very inviting either. Thankfully in Pittsburgh, there is a huge collection of small time and locally owned shops. There are also some roasteries providing a different atmoshphere and escape from the normal chain coffee shops.

1. BIG DOG

Big Dog is a beautiful coffee shop with a great environment. It has a wood burning fireplace, patio, art work on the walls AND it serves breakfast food....how could you go wrong? To be specific, they offer an oatmeal bar. What better way to start off your work day?

2. ESPRESSO A MANO

Expresso A Mano is located on Butler Street. Butler Street is very busy and so is this coffee shop. This coffee shop is so good, it lures people from all over the city. "A Mano" means by hand so everything in this shop is hand crafted everyday which makes it very special.

3. LA PRIMA

La Prima is located in the Strip District in Pittsburgh; a very busy place especially on the weekends for many people to shop. This place is full of culture, character and coffee for everyone.

4. CONSTELLATION COFFEE

This coffee shop is relatively new to the Pittsburgh area. It is a very large coffee shop located on Penn Avenue. The coffee beans they use are from a special place and make the experience even better.

5. 21ST STREET

This coffee shop is also located in the Strip District. Some people portray this place as pretentious but this shop takes pride in their appreciation for uncontaminated coffee and attention to everyone's passion for this beverage.

Yes, all these shops are very special and out of the ordinary. BUT, sometimes you just can not go wrong with a medium caramel swirl iced coffee from Dunkin!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
