It's the classic college story, where a teenager hardly drinks coffee in high school and then miraculously depends on it in college. I thought this was a myth, but have come to learn it is most definitely not.
I never really drank coffee in high school, maybe a Starbucks iced coffee a few times a month, but definitely not a regular drink for me. So many of my older friends told me college was the place I'd learn to depend on coffee, and I brushed it off, thinking "I don't need coffee, I have plenty of energy in the morning!"
But by my second week of classes I learned I needed to readjust my thoughts. On Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, I have an 8am, 9am, 10am, and 2pm. You'd think that I'd be most tired for the 8am, and on top of that, it is an English class, which is not my favorite. Surprisingly, I find myself dozing off and barely keeping my eyes open in my 9am class, theology. The class is very interesting, but my eyes always seem to bob up and down.
Starting this past week, I've been making coffee in the morning before my classes start on those three days, because I don't think I can make it through my four classes that day without the caffeine boost.
However, there are some downsides I've come to learn about drinking two cups of coffee before your morning classes. The crash.
By about 11am or noon, I am ready to take a nap, and that caffeine boost got me energized for my morning classes, but then I'm beat and ready to sleep again. Is there a way to combat this?
So do you think the pros outweigh the cons of drinking coffee? Do you think coffee becomes more of a placebo the more you drink it?
