It seems that today, there are many artists who tend to rip others off or simply promise something to consumers and never follow through. It has become more and more common every day, and this is an act that many get away with, one example being artist Alexandra Douglass. Now I know many may not know her, so here's a little bit about her and her work.
Alexandra Douglass is a science fiction artist who draws many pieces for games and publications. In addition, she writes her own webcomics, simply comic books that are on devices instead of being printed out. Alexandra Douglass is very active on Twitter as well.
She sounds amazing, right?
That is what I thought until it was brought to my attention about her comic known as "The Cloud Factory."
"The Cloud Factory" is another one of her science-fiction comics that takes place in the industrial era and has to with discoveries and devices from the old ages of civilization. In addition, there are always new devices being discovered here in the comic, and like all good comics and novels, there are two characters who are trying to solve the mystery of the "Cloud Factory" in order to help the people in that society.
This comic sounds amazing and very climactic right? Wrong, actually we do not really know. She has written a solid eight pages and has never finished it, so no one knows the ending. This graphic novel was left undone by her in 2015. However, this is not the worst part.
Alexandra Douglass also did a Kickstarter for this graphic novel of hers with a goal of $7,500, and she ended up receiving $83,632. With this money, she had promised at least 36 pages in the graphic novel which was originally 32 pages, where she would be constantly updating it on the website.
The question is: how did she get away with lying to so many?
No one actually knows why.
Some say that it is because she has a "mental issue," while others say that she is simply lazy. They say these harsh words because the Kickstarter was so successful, and she is still very active on her social media, selling merchandise of her other works and even this webcomic at times. In addition, there were no issues with manufacturing or publishing. Alexandra Douglass still gets jobs from other companies even after this.
Though there is no true explanation as to why she left this webcomic, there are many who are truly disappointed in her for doing this. This is a very large scam in which not many people know what their money is currently being used for. However, they know what they have purchased: disappointment from an artist that truly could have had one-of-a-kind, exquisite work.
