To my new, but close friend; my roommate. This letter is to my roommate Sam who lives with me this year in Scott Village.

When we first met, I didn’t know you or any of our other roommates, but the minute we got a hold of each other, I knew we would be great friends. When you moved in before me, I was nervous about meeting you and the other two girls because I didn’t know what to expect. When we found out that we would be living together, I sent you an email so we could keep in touch before we moved in. When we started talking, I realized we had so much in common and that made me incredibly happy. When we first moved in, we stayed up and talked for a while and hung out and decorated our dorm together. I love how close we’ve become in the short time that we have known each other (Since August). We have so many things in common and like to do a lot of the same things. Most of all, I wanted to say thank you for everything you’ve done for me since we met.

Thank you for putting up with my stressed out self at times and helping me through the tough moments. Thanks for putting off homework with me and watching our favorite series on Netflix instead. Also, for going to the dining hall with me when I couldn’t find anyone else to go with. I cannot imagine spending my time with anyone else during the week, but you.

During the tough moments in the semester, you were always there for me when I needed to cry or vent about something, when I worry about anything, you are there to help me through it. I just want you to know that I’m always here for you too. No matter where we end up, I am always going to be just a call away no matter what.

You are the only one that I would go to the store with and buy a bunch of food when we are hungry, despite us having no money, let’s be honest, we have done that several times at 10 o’clock at night. I love all of our late night movies and eating snacks at midnight while trying not to wake up the entire building with our obnoxious laughing. Thank you for always reminding me that God is on my side no matter what and that you are too. I appreciate everything you have done for me and I thought you should know how much you mean to me. Love you no matter what and I can’t wait for more memories with you.

Love,

Your Roommate

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
