While it may not feel like it, spring has finally arrived. The weather may still be cold and snow may still be on the ground that doesn't prevent you from getting a head start on your spring cleaning. It is time to donate all those old clothes you don't wear and finally get that stain off your kitchen floor. Spring cleaning may overwhelm you but it needs to be done because if you don't do it now you will never do it. These are the top three areas you need to make sure you hit this spring cleaning.
1. Your Closet
Holidays have come and gone and we have all accumulated clothes we either don't want or don't wear. Just cause you don't need them doesn't mean someone else doesn't. Grab a box and go through your entire closet and all our drawers. Don't just look in the closet and try to eyeball what you want and don't want. Go through each item and ask yourself, "Do I really need this," or, "When is the last time I wore this?" Chances are if you haven't worn it in the last year, you will never wear it. Throw it out! Next move onto your drawers. No one needs three drawers of t-shirts, I have two drawers and I definitely don't wear all of them. I know it is hard getting rid of shirts because you truly never know when you might need a purple shirt or a certain cat shirt. If it comes down to it you can borrow one from a friend or pick up a new one. Lastly, hit your shoes. We all have shoes we love but simply never wear for a various amount of reasons. While it is important to have a nice selection of shoes you don't need five pairs of tennis shoes.
2. Your Kitchen
In your kitchen you not only need to focus on cleaning the floors and counters but also you need to clean out some food. I would do all the mopping and disinfecting first because having a clean looking kitchen will make you feel better and happier as you sort through twenty cans of green beans. Everyone seems to gather up a pile of food we never need. Maybe there was a great deal and you just had to buy four boxes of rice so you could get one for free. Maybe you held a party and someone brought over a basket of assort foods you would never eat so you shoved it in the back of the pantry. It is time to get donate all that stuff you don't need. Food banks will happily take the food you don't need and now you will have more space to hoard more food you "need."
3. Your Body
Now you're probably thinking, "What? My body is clean! I shower!" I understand you shower but everyone lets themselves go during the winter. When it is cold we are able to bundle up and hide our hairy bodies. Bundling up also helps hide the extra weight we may have put on during the winter months. While you may convince yourself that the extra weight and hair was need to keep you warm, shorts and skirts season is coming around and no one wants to see your unruly hair. I don't really care if you shave it or not but at least try and like maintain it so it isn't sticking all over the place. Spring is also a great time to try a new haircut or just get your hair cut in general. Stop trying to deny that you have dead ends and go get them cut. All of our weight gain/loss is bound to fluctuate during the winter and I'm not suggesting we all need to go gym crazy but your body won't complain about getting out for a hike. Breathe in the fresh spring air and soak up the warm sun. Start spring out right with a happy body because a happy body means a happy self.
