My girlfriend and I get every Sunday off, so we like to try to go out and enjoy our time off with one another, which sometimes is a little hard to do. We might be strapped for a little cash, one of us can't go to the other's house for some reason or another, or everything either closes early or is simply just closed, but one constant that we have found on our rare day off together is the Cleveland Museum of art or the #CLEMA as we like to call it.
The drive to the #CLEMA may take an hour, but it only consists of 4 turns in order for us to pull up to the parking garage, and once you get onto OH-21, you spend 50 of your 60 minutes going straight or slight variations of straight. So while it may be a bit of a drive, it honestly feels no longer than driving to Canton. The best part about the drive is that it goes right around Cleveland, so you don't get any of the grueling Cleveland traffic, as long as there isn't a game going on (but, seriously check to see if there's a game. Those sports fans are crazy drivers!).
The #CLEMA houses one of the most acclaimed collections of works and has something for everybody out there. Do you like biblical pieces? #CLEMA has a wing for that. Do you like sculptures or medieval pieces? The #CLEMA has a wing for that, too. Not interested in all of those "sissy" art pieces? Then boy you're in luck because the #CLEMA has a room just for this type; the armour and weapons room. I am talking full suits of armour, swords, daggers, guns, axes, spears, and a full sized horse donned in full horse armour. There's enough medieval war paraphernalia for somebody to get lost browsing while the real art connoisseurs can appreciate themselves some beautiful art. Speaking of art, have you ever seen a piece by Van Gogh or a Monet in real life? Well, neither had I before I had gone to the #CLEMA.
A little game that my girlfriend (her name is Maggie, by the way) and I like to play during our visit, which might sound sacrilege to some diehard art fans, is to make fun of some of the pieces there. We particularly like to pick fun at the Medieval period portion of their collection, because sometimes it just feels good to laugh at a bunch of paintings by some old dead dudes. And after you're done with the museum, why not stop by Cuyahoga National park on your way home? It's right on the way, plus you can see the majestic force of nature that is a waterfall!
And did I mention that it is FREE? Now go explore something new and exciting! Safe ventures, guys!
