On Halloween, I dressed up as a child, complete with slippers and a teddy bear, watched scary movies, drew on pumpkins (too lazy to carve), and otherwise celebrated a very autumn-y holiday. On November 1st ,my roommates and I were listening to Jingle Bell Rock and deciding where we should place the Christmas tree in our apartment.
It’s Christmas season, people.
Let me tell you why you should absolutely, certainly, without-a-doubt be celebrating Christmas right now. (If you aren’t a huge fan of Christmas, gtfo, this article isn’t for you.)
1. Love and peace all around.
No for real, if you’re like me, then being in the Christmas spirit makes you search for the positive in every situation. Good vibes attract good vibes, people.
2.Getting your money’s worth out of those decorations.
I’m going back to Washington to spend Christmas Day with my family, but that doesn’t mean I’m not going to go all out decorating my apartment and otherwise throwing my money at anything red, green, and sparkly for the next two months. Starting to decorate on November 1st allows me to enjoy a cheery Christmas-ey apartment for as long as I possible can within the realms of social acceptability.
3. Getting a head start on planning for gift giving.
Presents are really not what Christmas is all about, but if you’re going to focus energy in that area, focus on giving. Honestly, giving my friends and family presents is ONE OF THE FUNNEST THINGS about Christmas. (Can funnest be an actual word in the dictionary yet? Asking for a friend…) Planning ahead avoids the last minute gifting stress, even if your sister responds to you asking her what she wants for Christmas with “Jamie….It’s October…"
4. Watching Christmas movies and music a month in advance.
I get so overwhelmed with feels when “All I Want For Christmas” by Mariah Carey comes on my Christmas Pandora station, or when I break out The Christmas Story for the first time of the season. Who wouldn’t want to experience that for as long as possible?
5. Being busy as hell.
Fit it all in. Life flies by when you’re busy, as any college student well and truly knows.
December can be the busiest month of the year, so why waste any time getting started enjoying Christmas? I want to get a tree with my roomies, decorate our apartment, bake, listen to Christmas music, drink hot chocolate, walk around looking at Christmas lights, ice skate at LA Live, cuddle up by the fire, hunt for ugly Christmas sweaters at Goodwill, and make a poorly constructed gingerbread house. There’s just no way a girl can be expected to fit that all in in one month, while stile acing finals.
