1. The UnBEARable Questions
"How was you first semester?"
"Did you have a date to semi?"
"Why'd you dye your hair that color? It's so weird!"
"So, I heard you got a ticket! How funny, didn't you ever learn not to speed?"
"What was your overall GPA again? Jessie made a 4.1! I didn't even think that as possible!"
Sometimes it almost seems like family was made to embarrass you with questions on Christmas Day. It really makes you have to work for all those presents under the tree.
2. The "Koala Tea" Time
Now, usually when I wake up early Christmas morning, I get bombarded with pictures being taken and "pose right here" or "Act like you love each other" as my mother forces my brother and I to pose with our bed head next to the Christmas tree. Most of the time, I just want to head back to bed and sleep for 12 more hours or so, and the need for waking up early to get my presents dies a little more as I age. I start to realize maybe sleep is more valuable than the $10 Starbucks gift card waiting for me in my stocking.
3.Taco-Bout Gossip!
Aside from all the questions you'll receive, how about your mom and aunt's yearly gossip on their old high school friends? Or just breaking into groups and talking about other family members in general? Once you get to the age where Grandpa even offers you a beer, be ready for the ultimate question, "What do you think about that (insert name here)?" Oh no, the worst possible, they're encouraging you to join in the yearly gossip ring...what could go wrong? Other than you giving an opinion they don't like that is. Then the real fight starts and maybe the sides begin to form. It'll be just like Star Wars Episode III, all hell breaks loose: Christmas Day Gossip Edition.
4. The Presents!
Now, once the time comes and the adults have let you suffer enough, staring down those big beautiful presents, we all feel the inner child in us come out. We go for the biggest one first, because it's got to be exactly what you asked for! Whale, whale, whale and what do we have here? A brand new pair of socks straight from Grandma's heart....oh man. We wouldn't want grandma's feelings to be hurt, right? So we crack the biggest smile we can and thank her for our new Christmas socks that we'll probably wear everyday! The days we go to her house, that is.
Punny jokes aside, Christmas is always a wonderful time and the awkward questions, classic gifts, and crazy drama makes family what it's supposed to be. Something at times we wish we could go without, but realize we couldn't last a second without the people in our lives that matter the most. Merry Christmas everyone, and Happy Holidays.
