Christina Grimmie was one of the first singers on YouTube I watched. I remember watching her covers of everything from Adele to Bruno Mars, to even Hannah Montana. There was something different about her, something unique and something real compared to other singers on YouTube I watched, and I didn't feel like she was singing the same old song with the same old arrangement like some of the other YouTubers. On her YouTube channel, she would sing popular songs you would hear on the radio, but she would sing them with a different style, always putting her own twist on them. Christina Grimmie wasn't the cliched YouTube singer -- she was so unique, with this big, angelic voice that gave you chills. Whenever Christina sang a high note she would hit it very softly and it was the most beautiful thing I have ever heard, and when she hit the low notes it was so rich and she could do vibrato like no one else could.
Not only could Christina Grimmie sing like an angel, she acted like one too. Christina was the type of person that could instantly brighten your day with her beautiful voice. She actually cared about her fans and how they were doing, and she also had this strong faith. Christina Grimmie not only spread love to everyone, but she also shared her faith with the world and helped others as much as she possibly could. According to Selena Gomez, one of Christina Grimmie's best friends, during her tribute to Christina at her concert in Miami, "One thing about Christina and her family is that she holds her faith so closely to her, I think it's not about a religion and it's not about good deeds. I think she just had faith and I don't really understand how this really happened, but I would like to dedicate this song to her."
Christina Grimmie believed in God and had this strong, unbreakable faith that she wasn't afraid to share with her fans or even the world. A lot of stars may be Christians (or even believe in other things), but they aren't as open about their faith with other people. Christina Grimmie was my inspiration -- not only because she inspired me to follow my dreams and to keep singing, but because she showed me that I shouldn't be afraid to share what I believe in with the world. Not in a way where I shove my beliefs down other people throats or criticize people for not believing in what I believe in, but to not be afraid to be who I really am and to not hide my faith under a rock. Some of my favorite song covers of hers were the ones of Christian songs. After her tragic death, I started watching all of her old YouTube videos again and I came across her cover of "In Christ Alone" from 2012. The words in this song describe her never ending faith perfectly. "No guilt in life, no fear of death ... Jesus commands my destiny ... Until he returns, or calls me home."
As most of you know, Christina was tragically taken from us about a week ago. She was shot down by a gunman in Orlando, Florida, at her autograph signing after her concert. Nobody understands why something like this would happen and why there are such people like the shooter in this world that are so full of hate, but an old tweet saying, "Sometimes God allows terrible things to happen in your life and you don't know why. But that doesn't mean you should stop trusting Him," has comforted her family, friends, and even her fans. I don't know why all of these amazing, kind-hearted people keep on undeservedly being killed. But Christina was the type of person who didn't regret and lived her life to the fullest. This comes to show that life is short and we should always tell those we love that we love them and we should always live life to the fullest. Christina is now singing with the angels. Though she is gone, she will never be forgotten. Thank you, Christina, for inspiring me to have faith and to follow my dreams!
