Some Common Christian 'One-Liners' Do Way More Harm Than Good, Like This One

God will give you more than you can handle because at the end of your strength is the beginning of His.

God won't ever give you more than you can handle.

I've heard that phrase my entire life, it's so endearing. It's pretty but dangerous. It's empowering a belief that is not biblical. Too often Christians say one-liners that are popular but not principal. This being one of them and I'll put it to rest now. Why Sabrina? Why such a hard hand when attacking this "one-liner?"

Because it softens the seasoned Christian and falsely advertises to the new one. It's assuring saints that life will be a little hard, but don't worry, it won't go past what you can handle. I don't know about you, but that logic doesn't work for the weary cancer patient, doesn't go for the starving homeless man, and it REALLY doesn't fit for the barren mother. Life will always give you more than you handle because you aren't supposed to carry it alone.

If you could bear your own cross, why would you need a savior? You completely debunk the significance of the cross. I know many of us, myself included, are strong, independent Christians who want a conditional God to swoop up in save them in times of need. That is cherry-picking Christianity.

As I said, the phrase is dangerous for two reasons, because it softens the seasoned Christian and falsely advertises to the new one. It softens the seasoned Christian not to believe in the power of prayer, not to believe in the sacrifice of Calvary, not to believe on His word solely but on the underlying idea that no matter what, God won't give me more than my threshold can take. That is a lazy Christian mentality, it strips you of using the arsenal God has equipped you with as a believer by holding on to an idea or thought that isn't true.

Seasoned Christians need to be aware of the battles you think you've "conquered" as a testament to God's grace enabling, not because of some strength you think you've acquired. Length in Christianity is not equivalent to maturity in Christianity. You can be in the faith for 40 years and still be praising God off a Sunday school doctrine. Please don't let this phrase become a mantra. It is by God's faith, strength, and grace that you are able to endure this life and all the struggles that it encompasses.

New Christians! Hey. So, like, please. Don't go around to other new believers spouting this. I know, I know, you're on fire for God and you love everyone and you want everyone to be saved and God is amazing and OMG he's like awesome. But please know it's like sending a soldier to war with no weapons. Life is HARD, and with God sometimes it will get HARDER. Once the devil gets a whiff of WHO you belong to, it's more of reason to come at you. It's more of a target to try and derail you from the promises and destiny he has in store for you.

He never said this walk would be easy, He never said that His weapons wouldn't form and He never promised a struggle-free life. He said you would have to walk this narrow path but you wouldn't walk it alone. Please know that this is not a life of comfortability with or without God. This isn't a path of pleasure but of purpose. So God will give you more than you can handle because at the end of your strength is the beginning of His.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
