1. For starters, you cried when you left school to head home for the summer.

I got in the car with my mom and the first thing she says is, “Aren’t you so excited to be home?” I broke down in tears. No mom, I miss my friends, I miss my school. I honestly wanted to take the wheel and drive myself back. Home just didn’t sound fun for me. Saying goodbye to your friends for three months was something I never thought would be so hard, but these people that were strangers eight months ago were now my best friends and like family to me. Texting them just wouldn’t be the same.2. You have a countdown on your phone until you're back.

If you were wondering there are 80 days, 10 hours and 29 minutes until school.
3. You refer to "home" as school.

It’s a confusing topic. At home, school is “home,” and when you’re at school, “home” is home. But ultimately school is the place you’ve been living at for the past eight months and where you’ve done most of your growing up. So let's just say home = school. Plus, home is where the heart is, and I think I left it at school.
4. Every conversation is about something you did while you were at school (sorry not sorry).

Eight months at school calls for many late nights, lots of fun, lots of hard work and mostly lots of stories and memories. Even though your friends at home won’t understand the craziness of your favorite bar, or how funny it was when your best friend did whatever, it’s nice to be able to verbally relive the mems, even if you do get on everyones nerves and tell the same stories over and over.
5. Your home friends start to know your school friends because you talk about them so much.

And let's be real, they probably all follow each other on socially media too. Your friends, my friends, our friends. They all have something in common — you, so no doubt they’ll love each other.
6. You wear your school t-shirts every single day at home.

You spent how much in school gear and XL sorority shirts? You probably own more comfort colors than you do real clothes. So yes mom, I will rep every day while I’m home, and yes, I promise I have pants on underneath. You’ve just become really proud to go to your school, so it's totally okay to brag in every way possible.
7. Your group message of friends at school never dies.

Even if there are no words spoken and it’s only pictures and videos from throughout the year, your friends miss school and you just as much as you miss them. Sometimes its just an update on life: they got back together with their boyfriend, they broke up, they got grounded (is that even still allowed?) ... either way you’re always up-to-date on their lives.
8. You secretly wonder how many "tbt" pictures from school are acceptable to post.
You scroll through your camera roll and realize how many pictures you never got to post. Tbt to the first football game, first swap, that one night at the bar, the time we stayed in, the time we road tripped. Too many memories, not enough time to Instagram them all.
9. Over the summer you buy your clothes based on school colors for game days, and outfits for date parties.

A dress in your rival school colors? I don’t think so. Let’s stick to what we know, game day colors, game day shoes, will that match my game day button? Or maybe you see a cute dress and your mom says no, but you promise her you’ll need it for all the date parties you’re going to get asked to. (or all the date parties you’ll be bringing guys to..or maybe it’ll just stay in your closet, either way: you need it)
10. Your mom wonders if you're depressed, or if school really was that fun.

Coming home means a lot of time in your room, on Netflix, or job searching. It’s a lot of alone time since you no longer live with roommates or have your best friends in the building next to you. You're glued to your phone and your old group message and your mom begins to think you’re depressed and all you do is sit around. But they don’t get it, home just isn’t the same. So for the next few weeks mom, I will continue my third show on Netflix, and continue counting down the days until I return “home."
