First of all, if you were reading this and expecting a deep, long argument about my approval or disapproval with Donald Trump, that is not what you are going to get today. I don’t think it is important for me to persuade anyone in America to agree with my beliefs on politics, nor do I ever see myself trying to do so in my articles. However, I do want to get one major point across today. Stop trying to be a politician and/or lobbyist on social media. I have learned the hard way that arguing and not listening doesn’t get you far, and it probably causes more damage than it does helpfulness. My cousin, who lives in Canada, made a post the other day that really bothered me. It was a “countdown” until the next presidential inauguration. Unfortunately, we had a heated discussion via social media, and I said some things I was not proud of. This is the problem. We don’t get anywhere by arguing about politics on social media. In fact, most of the time, we end up making ourselves look ridiculous.
We are all entitled to our own beliefs, but I, personally, do not like to share my political beliefs/concerns on social media. I, especially, do not post about politics if I know it is going to cause an argument or offend someone. With that being said, can we please do less bashing and more loving? Instead of bashing what you hate, promote what you love about someone. It is okay to disagree with Donald Trump; it’s okay to feel upset or respond to your emotions. When you get other people involved, causing negativity and unnecessary conflict, that’s when it becomes a problem.
Remember Maya Angelou's famous quote, “I've learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.” This is so true. Do not make someone feel bad just because they do not agree with you. Be mindful when you post, and if it is going to spark controversy, avoid it. Regardless of what we think about Donald Trump being our president, he is still our president. Have some respect, and deal with it. We live in America, the land of free, the home of the brave. We're all going to be okay. Please refrain from wishing negativity upon your president because he is leading our country; if he goes down, America can, too.
Have faith. Donald Trump may be our new president, but God is our king and the ruler of the Universe. Pray that God works through Donald Trump for the good of our nation. Trust the process. Let go of doubt and fear. Martin Luther King, Jr., once said, "Take the first step in faith. You don't have to see the whole staircase. Just take the first step." With that being said, please take the first step, and exercise self-control.
