The college decision. The most difficult decision of one's high school career.
High school seniors are receiving their acceptance letters and trying to pick which school is the best fit for them. Sometimes other people's opinions are overwhelming, but no one should let what others say get in the way of what he or she really wants.
Here are some things to be cautious of when choosing your college:
1. NEVER choose the college you attend based on a boyfriend/girlfriend or even best friend. The school may be the perfect fit for your boyfriend, but that doesn't mean it's the perfect fit for you.
2. Don't let your parents tell you which college is the best for you. Make the decision on your own. You're the one who will be spending four years there.
3. Don't choose a school you've never seen. Please go visit the college before you make the decision. Some people get lucky and end up loving the college they've never visited, but make sure the school lives up to your expectations before choosing it.
4. Don't solely rely on rankings. Yes, take them into consideration, but if the school you want to go to isn't in the top 10, it's not a big issue.
5. Don't choose your school solely based on the sports. Athletics can definitely be a factor, as they were in my decision-making process, but look at other aspects of the school also.
6. A lot of people want to meet new people in college and therefore steer away from in-state public schools. Half of your school may go to the same college, but you don't have to spend time with them if you don't want to.
Choose your college based on what you want.
