Since the publication of the "Harry Potter" books, Harry Potter has become a household name for millions of people across the world. However, I am not so sure that is such a positive thing. Children are quite impressionable, and these books fill children's heads with a myriad of dangerous ideologies.
1. There are seven books!
Who has time to read seven books? Do you want your child turning into a class A bookworm? The "Harry Potter" series has been described as a gateway to hard literature. If you absolutely must experience the Wizarding World, just watch the movies!
2. There are strong,well-written female characters!
Whoa, J.K. Rowling, how dare you write complex female characters? Hermione teaches young girls that you can be logical and academic and have an emotional side and be the heroine. What kind of multifaceted nonsense is this? Luna Lovegood teaches them to unapologetically be themselves? Molly Weasley and Bellatrix Lestrange are examples of motherly love and obsessive love? Nymphodora Tonks, who is a very capable soldier while still being clumsy, passionate and sporting pink hair, exists in this universe? This is atrocious!
3. "Harry Potter" teaches children to question authority.
How dare you challenge the status quo? Why would you ever want to call politicians out for being unjust and bigoted? That might actually promote progressive change. Quelle horreur!
4. The power of love and friendship is a frequently recurring theme in these books.
The greatest weakness of the main villain, Lord Voldemort, is that he cannot comprehend the concept of love. What kind of message is that? Why would the hero ever admit he needs help? He does not simply suffer alone? There is more to his life than simply being the Chosen One and defeating Voldemort? Lily Potter saved his life when he was an infant by sacrificing her own out of motherly love? Your children are being corrupted by all this love.
5. The books get progressively darker and more sophisticated as the characters grow older.
It is almost as if 11-year-olds and 17-year-olds do not act the same way! How dare Harry express angst over losing loved ones and being pursued by a homicidal dark wizard? There are children reading this! It's almost as if the original audience also grew up with Harry and aged up with him.
