Charlotte Is A Reflection Of A Nation Divided

The fight between the police and black community has escalated again.

Charlotte Is A Reflection Of A Nation Divided
The Millennium Report

Millions of children stand in their school each morning with their hand over their heart reciting the pledge to the flag. They finish with the following line, “One nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.” Right now the people of our country are not living by these words, nor have we lived by them for a while now. The riots in Charlotte are a representation of a torn nation that has simply turned to hate.

Our country is trying to fight a battle between the police force and black communities. So far, we are all losing terribly. Yet another black man, Keith Lamont Scott, was shot and killed by police. His brother reports to the media that all white people are “devils”. Several graphic videos were released by the media, including one of a white male being beaten and dragged by rioters. An unidentified civilian was shot by another civilian during the riots and died shortly after being put on life support. At this point in time we are all in a battle against each other. There is no “good guy” in this scenario simply because we are living in a country that is being fueled by hate and anger. We are not living as one nation, we are divisible, and there is absolutely no liberty and no justice for all.

It is about time we figure out how to end bad relations between the police force and communities. This issue is not just something that has recently appeared, but has actually been around for decades. Police brutality can be traced back to Rodney King who was beaten by the LA Police Department back in the 1990s. It can be traced back to 2006 when Sean Bell was shot 42 times and killed by police the morning before his own wedding. This is clearly not an issue that can be solved overnight. We cannot continue to wait around to see justice for others and justice for ourselves. It won't be easy and it will take time, but it's about time we find balance.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
