I am lucky enough to live in one of the most beautiful cities in the world - Charleston, South Carolina. Each and every year, it seems that Charleston is named “America’s Most Beautiful City” or “The Best City in the World.” Our Southern port city is chalked full of history, tourist attractions, restaurants and so much more. Having lived in such an amazing place, I have come to learn why Charleston is so unique. And all the more reasons for you to visit this little piece of Heaven.
1. The sunsets
There’s nothing quite like watching the sunset at the Battery or across the Arthur Ravenel, Jr. Bridge on a warm evening. And the best part: It’s warm year-round, so you can even watch the sunsets in the middle of January.
2. The bricks
These are both a curse and a blessing. You haven’t really lived in Charleston if you’ve never done the infamous Charleston shuffle - tripping over the uneven brick sidewalks - and, trust me, it won’t take you long at all to accomplish this.
3. The architecture
How many other cities can say that a large portion of its houses was built in the 1700s?
4. The hospitality
Charlestonians are genuinely kind, generous and thrilled to always have so many tourists in our home. Throughout the best and worst times, citizens stand together to create an unbelievable community.
5. The beaches
Just minutes away from downtown you can find some of the most beautiful beaches in the country: Isle of Palms, Sullivan’s Island, Kiawah and so many others.
6. The restaurants
Some of the world’s most famous restaurants are just a few blocks away from downtown: Magnolia’s, Slightly North of Broad and FIG, just to name a few.
7. The history
The city of Charleston was founded in 1670, so you’d bet these streets are filled with history from Fort Sumter to the Old Slave Market.
As you can see, Charleston is a gem of the South. I couldn't think of a better place to live. Come and see for yourself what Chucktown is all about!
