I used to consider myself a cynic.

I was bitter and unhappy and that was just the way I lived my life. In 2018, I decided I wanted to make a change in my life. I wanted to be an overall happier person and be open to seeing the good in everyone.

1. Stop judging others

Everyone you meet is just being themselves. Being judgmental towards others is hurtful and in no way benefits you.

2. Treat others how you would want to be treated

The Golden Rule is obvious one. If everyone lived by this- the world would be a better place. We would all have the same stance on immigration, LGBTQ rights and many other social issues that we face today.

3. Stop focusing on social media

In high school, I lived by the phrase, "if it isn't on Snapchat, it didn't happen." Years later, I can't believe that I was ever so stupid. So many people today only do things so they can brag about them online. With that being said, I do enjoy making my Instagram look nice. But, it's for me, not anyone else.

4.Stop worrying about what others think

I’m actually still working on this one. It’s hard because on one hand, you want people to like you, but on the other, if you lived your life according to the standards everyone else thought you should- you would never be authentic.

5. Stop eating animals

At some point, I decided that I didn’t want to eat animals anymore. I love animals. I like living my life knowing that no souls were harmed in the making of my meals.

6. Live to the words of Imagine by John Lennon

“Imagine all the people

Living for today

Imagine there's no countries

It isn't hard to do

Nothing to kill or die for

And no religion, too

Imagine all the people

Living life in peace"

7. Appreciate the small things

Having had a good day, a night out with your friends or just a good conversation with a family member.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
