Change Your Perspective To Change Your Life

We all have our own battles to fight from time to time, but our perspective on the matter is a choice that defines how we react.

Life is best lived with an open heart and a great big smile, but also when you can give a nod to the past and a wave to the future. There will always be moments that seem dreadful or bothersome, and perhaps even disheartening, but perspective is an amazingly powerful force. You can choose to abhor the storm or revel in the beauty of the rainbow that soon follows it.

Waking up each morning and having to go to work, school, or anyplace where duty calls may seem unbearable at times — but how many times do we give thanks to the fact that we even have the opportunity to take on a new day? To let go of what was and embrace what is or what will be?

Our daily struggles and sometimes ongoing battles with ourselves and others can give rise to tension, pain, anger, and resentment. At the end of it all, though, it is your resilience and your strength that will help you surpass all obstacles that come your way. This applies to all aspects of your life: health, finances, relationships, careers, goals, you name it. It is knowing that you have the power to look past your struggles and see them as inevitable challenges that test your character and courage that will allow you to prevail in any difficult matter that dares present itself.

Although not every moment in your life will bring you satisfaction, you can choose to change your perspective and see your battles, not as a barrier, but more as a lesson and a journey. You can only get to the top of the hill if you put in the effort to make the climb. It is up to you to interpret that climb in a positive manner and express gratitude for having it evoke your strength. Consider that any situation you find yourself in warrants some appreciation if you let them serve as a reminder that you are more than capable of overcoming any impediments to your achievements or goals.

Not everyone will relate to your experiences and not everyone has to in order to listen and understand you, or for you to empathize with others. Be thankful for any interactions you have, even if some conversations do not go as expected. Peoples' perspectives may not align with yours but engaging others grants you the opportunity to learn from their differing views and experiences. Compassion stems from these interactions, so embrace every moment with a sense of gratitude.

You are in control of how you choose to interpret the situations that arise in your life. Your focus will direct your emotions so attempt to view your life through a lens of optimism. There is much love to be had and much warmth to express, even in the face of conflict. Let not your adversities define you. Instead, empower yourself by concentrating more on the positive aspects of your life and envision possibilities where problems exist.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
