Change Isn't Always So Bad

A while ago, while I was at church, the priest made an interesting point. That change can be good. Wow. Crazy right. A lot of us get so stuck in our routine that we don't really do anything to stray from it. Or we are so focused on the plan that we have for ourselves that we refuse to let something change it. Which I think is like trapping yourself in a bubble that we can't get out of. Why? Because it's safe.

Let me demonstrate. When I was in high school I was overweight. Not much of a shocker since I've said this before. But my senior year I vowed to myself I would work out for prom. And that didn't really start until maybe mid-January. When I went shopping for my dress and found the perfect one, I made sure to work hard to keep fitting in the dress. When I went to a fitting, because the dress was too long, I thought the dress was tight and I panicked. It was a week before prom and I didn't think I was going to fit into the dress. So after another week of going hard of eating right and working out, I was ready. The day of prom I tried my dress on and it was a bit loose. Loose enough that I was a little scared to lift my arms up. Because it could have fallen.

After prom I stopped. Because it was hard. And I went back to not working out and not eating well. It's all I've known. And while I've made attempts to lose weight by eating well and exercising I can't really keep it up because it's hard. Change is hard. We tend to give up on our efforts because of a mental road block. Most of which come from looking back at our past failures. But taking ourselves out of our comfort zone can be good. Besides we can do anything we put our mind to and with God by our side.

Change seems scary and as I'm going through the beginning of the new year making a lot of changes something that I like to say is this: God is good, all the time. All the time, God is good. And the best is yet to come. Because no matter what you want, God has an amazing plan for you. We just have to be open to change and work hard when granted opportunities.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
