What It Was Like To Be At Chance's Magnificent Coloring Day

It was more magical than the happiest place on Earth.

Chance, you nailed it. I didn't know it was possible to be speechless yet have so much to say until your magnificent day. U.S. Cellular Field was packed with nonstop music and entertainment from 1:00 PM to 12:00 AM. The atmosphere was vibrant, and you can only guess how quickly your "tired" went away when you saw Chance walk out on stage. If you weren't at Chance's Magnificent Coloring Day this past weekend, this is what you missed.

10. $12 draft beer

Hey, there's one thing you don't have to be sad about missing! Though people did buy the beer without hesitation, I was appalled at the price. It’s not a surprise by any means, but if you were thirsty, you were either sticking it out or emptying out your wallet. I didn’t even check how much water was, but I can almost guarantee I wouldn’t have let myself spend it.

9. Drunk people (way too drunk of people)

It took only a half hour after arriving at the venue to witness a fight just two rows behind us. What could you have possibly found to be upset at each other about on this magnificent day? Needless to say, people were a little bit messy. My experience with drunk people got taken to the next level when a boy getting kicked out of the row we were in tried to run away with my purse as he exited. I had it lying on the ground under my seat when he snatched it up as he walked past. Luckily, his friend behind him immediately grabbed my purse back and I took it from his hands. People who get too drunk at concerts have so much potential to ruin it for the everyone around them.

8. Seat hopping

If you didn’t seat hop to the next best open seat, I give you major props. My tickets were for section 10 on the field, but we stayed in section 1 the entire day. Over and over again, we watched people take the seats next to us as if they were the seats listed on their tickets. We knew better, but we were in the same boat just trying not to get caught. Even more commonly, we saw people attempting to enter a row in section 1 only to get stopped by security asking them to verify their seats by showing their tickets. I think we lucked out just by being smart enough not to leave our seats after we had taken them.

7. Donnie Trumpet

This guy’s trumpet-playing talent is insane. I hope everyone else who was there was giving him as much attention as I was. The way he played that little piece of brass during “Summer Friends” was absolutely mesmerizing. Look him up on YouTube if you haven’t heard him play already. It's worth it.

6. Alicia’s voice

I couldn’t even sing along when Alicia was performing. Her voice was so strong and smooth, I couldn’t stand to cover up the sound of pure beauty with my own singing. She was captivating all around. From her swift, easy dance moves to the look of true passion on her face. Not that I expected any less from her, but wow. What a performance. Can we also talk about how she looks that stunning without makeup?

5. The weird puppet things during Chance’s performance

You know those things that are kind of weird but really cool at the same time? I can’t even decide if this was one of those things. I mean it’s Chance, so they must be cool. But they were also a little bit creepy and more than a little bit strange. But they definitely gave me a good laugh here and there, and they certainly didn’t take away from the performance at all (although I did hear a girl babbling about how much she hated when the “Big Fella” puppet talked). All-in-all, I give the puppets a good rating. If Chance approves, I approve.

4. Chance’s streamer & confetti finale

This was one of my many favorite parts of the day. You knew the finale was coming, but so many exciting things were happening all at once you didn't even know what to focus on. Then all of a sudden-- BAM! the confetti and streamers shot out and my god, was it magical. I got goosebumps and couldn't stop staring at it all billowing into the crowd. I'd take that exact experience again over Magic Kingdom's famous fireworks any day.

3. Jimmy Butler’s 30 seconds of fame

Did anyone else think it was weird how briefly Jimmy Butler was on the stage? It was an exciting surprise that was gone in the blink of an eye. In the video I took of him on stage he looks a little bit uncomfortable. Guess Jimmy Buckets only thrives on the court!

2. Chance’s message

There were a few times I can recall wanting to cry while at the event. Some of it was from being overwhelmingly happy, and another part was feeling so touched by Chance’s words. I’m not religious, nor would I consider myself very spiritual, but when Chance started to say stuff like, “Your blessing isn’t at any concert… but it’s comin’,” I was getting the chills. I can still hear the way he was saying “but it’s cominnnnnn’” in my head. He’s such a compassionate guy and it really shows when he performs and talks to his audience. My blessing is comin'. I know because Chance told me so.

1. Surprise guest: YEEZY

This was saved for number one for obvious reasons. We all knew there would be a special guest, but we could only infer who it might have been. We were all pretty convinced it would be Kanye, but I think there was still a part of me that didn’t think I would actually be seeing Kanye live that day. His entrance was completely unexpected, completely unannounced. I think that’s what made it so special—we were all just kind of standing around when we heard cheering… look up and Kanye freaking West is on the stage. The excitement of that moment is literally indescribable. You had to be there... sorry.

When your friends ask you how MCD was and you have nothing more to say than, “It was amazing,” show them this list. This right here is exactly what you missed by skipping out on Chance’s Magnificent Coloring Day. Even though I paid an amount of money that hurt my heart to spend, I have zero regrets about it. My heart is so full and I could not be more satisfied. People who are seeing Chance later in his tour: prepare yourselves. Being back at school after that is like experiencing the worst come down after the best high. Chance really loves what he does, and he is damn sure good at it.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
