What it's really like in the pit of a Chainsmokers concert

The Chainsmokers: A Concert Review

About a week and a half ago, I got to see the popular American DJ duo, The Chainsmokers. They're known for their top hits such as "Closer," "Don't Let Me Down," "Roses," and one of their more recent releases, "All We Know." Their upbeat EDM style has everyone turning up the radio. But imagine, what would it be like in the pit of their concert? If you're thinking of buying tickets to one of their shows, I'm here to share all the good and the bad about my experience.

On October 29th, they played at the Nashville Municipal Auditorium, which holds about 9,700 people. I'd say the venue was pretty appropriate for this kind of concert. Tickets were general admission, so naturally, everyone who got there when the doors opened rushed to the pit/floor. The floor was standing only, but there were a few seats in the lower and upper bowls for those who didn't want to stand for a long time.

Now, here's the catch to a Chainsmokers concert, and what nobody tells you. The concert started at 7:00, with the doors opening at 6:00. The Chainsmokers themselves didn't even come out until 10:00. Yes, they literally had three hours of opening acts, including Justin Caruso, ARMNHMR, and MUTEMATH. And while these artists were talented and whatnot, nobody told us we'd be standing in a crowded pit for up to three hours, waiting on the group we actually came to see. Every time an opener would finish their set, I'd think, "Okay, the Chainsmokers are definitely coming up next!" Nope. Another opener. So needless to say, after standing for multiple hours, surrounded by a bunch of people, we opted for seats in the upper bowl by the time the Chainsmokers came out.

You can imagine, after staying so hype for all of these opening artists, we've all got to be exhausted by this point. However, when 10:00 rolled around and The Chainsmokers, made their appearance, we all found a second wind of energy and welcomed them with long-awaited screaming. They introduced themselves by dimming the lights, then followed Drew Taggart singing a capella, "So baby pull me closer in the back seat of your Rover." From there, the show only got better. They played old favorites, including lesser known tracks from the record "Bouquet." They remixed classics, such as Mr. Brightside and the intro from The Lion King. The light show was insane, including fireworks and flames. All in all, it was a great performance, and everyone seemed to enjoy it.

By the time the Chainsmokers came on stage, the "pit" extended all the way to the back of the building. There were only rails set up to prevent people from getting too close to the stage, but there was no limit as to how many people could be on the floor. So, needless to say, it was packed. But everyone was pretty hype. I'd personally describe it as a frat party on steroids. Lots of dancing, drinking, and we even stepped in someone's vomit. I'd say everyone had a pretty good time, and I left knowing that The Chainsmokers put on a pretty hype show.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
