So, my sister is much more tuned into the whole celebrity world than I am. She checks justjared.com, knew right when Kate was pregnant, and always has to remind me which Kardashian is which. Usually I kind of tune her out when she talks about anything related to celebrities, unless it’s Miley Cyrus, because come on, who doesn’t want to know what ‘Hannah Montana’ has done now? She will read me funny tweets by people and I don't know and don’t really care to, but she recently asked me if I followed Christine Teigen on twitter. I don’t. So I blew it off like usual, not knowing anything about her other than she’s John Legend's wife. Later that day I just so happened to stumble upon a Huffington Post article titled ‘14 Funny Tweets By Chrissy Teigen, The Realest Celeb Mom On Twitter.‘ So now I understand why my sister loves her so much, and really, it’s not just for the tweets (don’t get me wrong; that’s definitely a huge factor). Like I said, I am not a celebrity person, but if more were like Teigen, maybe I would be.
So we’ll start with the Huff Post article that sparked my interest. She truly is the realest celebrity mom I know of. Any celebrities I do see post online have their babies in matching outfits worth more than my entire closet, eating designer baby food and giggling happily for the world to see. Do you ever actually see a clean, well dressed, happy baby for more than five minutes before they spill their mushy carrots on their onesie and start screaming for who knows what? No. One of my personal favorites from the Huff list would have to be ‘She just kicked me in the face and then farted in it. The disrespect!!’ and it’s probably because I feel I would have done that as a child. But here’s why it earns Teigan some massive respect. While she could be posting about how happy she is to be a mom or how perfect her baby is, she chooses to highlight the real and funny moments of being a mother. She knows her kid isn’t an angel and she isn’t making any attempt to make people think that. Honesty is not the easiest thing to come by now on social media but Teigan is raw, real and doesn’t care that people know she is a real person.
Now when she’s not talking about her baby, she’s just talking like everyone is her best friend. Which just makes her better. Unlike some 15-year-old celebrities, she doesn’t act any better or different from anyone. She doesn’t use an app to rid herself of any blemishes before she posts, she doesn’t boast about celebrity perks -- she just says what's on her mind and everyone connects with it because guess what, it’s exactly what we would think. Maybe that’s because we’re all human and maybe she understands that. Kinda weird to think about, considering she's a celebrity, right? She could have had a photographer take a killer photo of her from waist down and post that, but did she? No. She posted a photo sitting cross legged with her (I’m guessing) lemon water to let everyone know the bruises on her legs are from clumsily knocking into cabinets. Also, she wanted you to know her stretch marks say hi! Teenage girls wouldn’t even do that now because standards are so high to be inhumanly perfect.
So thanks sis, for letting me know there is actually a celebrity out there that broadcasts herself as a human, as more than photoshop and magazine covers. She is raising her child as anyone else would, she doesn’t lie, and she doesn’t try to come across as someone she is not. The biggest drama I see her getting into is for poking fun at the airbrushed Barbies who are finalists for Miss Teen USA, and I mean come on, she was just saying what we were all thinking (as per usual for her). So the point of all this, if you’re as out of touch with the celebrity world as I am, is that I promise there are ones who are actually human. And Teigan, if there were more celebrities like you out there, maybe gossip magazines would finally go out of business, news would be about news and not the most recent tummy tucks, and heck, the world just might be a better place.
