As a resident of Lancaster, PA for my entire life I have visited Hersheypark just about every summer for as long as I can remember. I looked forward to that day every summer when my family and our good family friends set off to the park for the entire day. It was all I had ever known and been accustomed to amusement park-wise, until this past weekend when I visited Cedar Point in Sandusky, OH. Here’s what I thought about Cedar Point:
1. As they say in real estate, “location, location, location.”
Cedar Point is looking right out onto Lake Erie. Some of the rides border the beach and give a spectacular view of the water. The water is sparkling and breathtakingly beautiful.
2. The food prices are outrageous as they are at almost every amusement park, but especially, Hersheypark.
However, I have to give them credit because you cannot see the prices for the food till you are just about to order. This is brilliant because by that time you have waited so long and are so desperate for food that you are willing to pay the price. But, for real it's almost $16 for three chicken tenders, a handful of fries and a soda where the cup is on the smaller side.
3. The new rollercoaster Valravn was worth the wait.
I especially liked the fact that as opposed to a free for all when you get in line for specific seats at Hersheypark, they asked how many was in our party and then told us where to go. I felt as though it was very organized and state of the art. After the ride was done you were led to where the ride photos were, and the store full of Valravn merchandise. That slow drop was insane though…
4. It has more roller coasters, is more spacious and a lot more clean atmosphere.
I even saw an employee using a powerful washer to get stains off the ground. There was virtually no litter or anything on the ground of the park- this has to be some kind of record as I would think this would be virtually unattainable. This is an amazing feat since the park itself is so massive. There is a train to take you around and drop you off at different stops throughout the park.
5. Lastly, it is significantly cheaper than Hersheypark.
Tickets were $50 a person for our age group at Cedar Point including tax. For our age group at Hersheypark they are $62.95 and will end up being over $70 with taxes. I mean do you want to spend less money for more rides and more opportunities or more money for less rides and less opportunities?
In my mind, Cedar Point is the clear winner here. If it was closer and not seven hours away from my home I would certainly be there enjoying the rides every summer.
