Montanans have a lot of pride. After all, it is the greatest state in the union to many of us that reside in the Big Sky State. Sure, it may not have all the amenities that urbanized areas have to offer; however, that sacrifice is minuscule compared to all that this state does possess. If the sight of mountains has never left you in awe or if the idea of miles upon miles of land uninhabited by man makes you wary, then Montana may not be for you. However, the rest of us continuously find peace in this landscape of silence.
Montana is a testament to the beauty that can be found in simplicity. There is a saying that beautiful things don't ask for attention; for me, that sounds a hell of a lot like this state. There is nothing that can compete with Montana in its natural state: a portrait of mountains and plains, bears and birds, wildflowers and pines trees has been painted before us. From Glacier to Yellowstone, Glendive to Missoula, and everything in between, we have lucked out.
Montanans appreciate all of the natural resources that the state offers. These resources provide residents with recreational as well as other opportunities. Montanans and the outdoors go hand in hand; that is why it is of the utmost importance that we adopt and continue a tradition of stewardship for the land that we call home. It is sickening to visit rivers, lakes, parks, and other areas to find trash and evidence of disregard for the Earth. I'm not saying that you need to go out and hug a tree, although trees are pretty cool. I'm saying that the natural world has provided us with so much that it is out of decency and respect that we take care of it.

Like our moms and dads always said, pick up after yourself. It sounds like something that we all learned in elementary school. However, sometimes it seems like it didn't stick. Isn't it our duty to leave things better than the way that we found them for future generations? This is a reminder that we have this one, incredible home. We all share it. Take care of Montana, because she is taking care of us.
