Scarlett has been abused by her father for years. Her whole goal in life: Protect her younger sister. Donatella, Scarlett's younger sister, is a spitfire. One for adventure and new experiences. Both the girls have seen the worst of their abusive father and want nothing more than to escape their small island, but with no clear escape, they stay put.

Scarlett is obsessed with the game of Caravel, a magical competition full of wonder, illusions, and underlying darkness. The master of Caraval, Legend, has invited Scarlett and her sister to the games. Donatella plays around with a young sailor, Julian. Julian has more than enough secrets up his sleve and consistanlty surprises Scarlett throught the novel.

As Scarlett travels to Caraval with the help of Julian, Donatella goes missing. Legend has something to do with her disappearance, but it is unknown how involved he really is. Scarlett now has only five nights to play the whimsical game of Caraval to find her sister. But be warned, you don't want to get too swept away.

So, settle in for a game of riddles, magic, and the grandest illusions ever created. Mixed with a desperate quest to mend a broken family and to put the tests of love and bravery to the max. Will Scarlett win Caraval? Go and find out for yourself.
