This is not a political article. I don't mean to insult #BlackLivesMatter, or otherwise denounce any movements on the left or right. Rather, I want to look at how people within these movements go about getting what they want, or responding to what others do. However, because of the polarization of the United States political system, the insults, and the vitriol surrounding any movements mentioned, I feel it is important to define terms.
An SJW [Social Justice Warrior] is, to me, an activist that does not act. These are the people who stop conversations from happening because they have offensive subject matter and stifle development in many areas. When a productive conversation is happening regarding transgender people, politics, or race, these are the people who stop what others are doing to inform them that they can't possibly know what they are talking about, are bigots, are racists, are sexists, and are otherwise bad people. If someone doesn't agree with an SJW, that person is considered not only wrong but evil.
An activist is someone who sees an issue and attempts to fix it. For example, a school without handicap access holds a fundraiser for ramps and elevators. A business which discriminates racially gets taken to court. Those are examples of activism. They are beneficial to the national conversation on issues and to society.
The issue is when SJW's and activists collide - it's when people are so focused on what's wrong they can't see how to make it right, and associations lose their potency due to so many cases of poor behavior.
SJW's are outright bullies, and they ruin the efforts of millions of oppressed or otherwise struggling groups. A rather famous video demonstrates this issue pretty clearly: (Warning, NSFW strong language and loud).
I would like to publicly state that I do not endorse any comments made in this video.
However well meaning this man may have been - pointing out that it is difficult for a white male to empathize with the issue that he may or may not see - his actions are those of a bully. The majority of his comments are insults. There is no conversation about the issues at hand (this was taken at a Trump rally), only efforts to shut down and demean the person he is arguing with.
The issue is that SJW's ruin everything they touch. They stifle conversation and don't communicate effectively when they do choose to talk, and make trolls and extremists even more effective in spreading rage and dissent.
There is never an explanation of issues, only accusations of complicity in wrongdoing, which sounds absurd without the same mindset as an SJW.
