“I’ll get a Venti Iced Coffee with Hazelnut and 2% Milk” is embedded in my brain and is spoken as naturally as “Hello, how are you?” It is not secret that Starbucks is an everyday essential for many “basic white girls”, this is including myself. Waking up in the morning and craving coffee is a daily occurrence, it can’t just be any coffee though, and it has to be Starbucks. I feel like a lot of people either love or hate Starbucks, there is no in-between. There are few things in life that you can’t live without: water, air, food (sometimes), and for me, Starbucks. Please don’t try to talk to me without there being at least ¾ of my Venti Iced Coffee with Hazelnut and 2% Milk gone.
Many people are not morning people, this includes myself. I would much rather sleep in until 3 p.m. and go from there. When I am forced to wake up for work, practice, or some other life threatening activity (usually by my mother), then I expect there to be a coffee of some sort with the siren logo plastered on the side. A lot of people say that Starbucks is such a “white girl” thing to get, but I actually enjoy the flavor of their coffee as well as the different brews of coffee that they offer. When I am feeling adventurous, I go for the Sumatra blend. If I’m feeling like I need a lighter day, the blonde roast changes it up. I’m not one of those girls who just go to Starbucks to get a 400-calorie Frappuccino and then call myself a coffee connoisseur.
Starbucks also has this great loyalty program that they just switched to for those (like myself) who spend more than $2 a day on a coffee. The Gold Reward’s program gives you a star for every $1 you spend at the store, with food or drink purchases as well as any merchandise you buy. You need 125 stars to get a free drink, which may seem like a lot but for the avid Starbucks goer you can get up to that 125 pretty quickly.
Some may say that consuming Starbucks makes you a "basic white girl”. Well, so be it. I am a basic white girl. It may be a waste of money to some, but I believe the product that Starbucks puts out as well as the people who know my order and are so personable, makes it worth it to spend my money at this coffee shop. Why deprive yourself of coffee or breakfast when Starbucks is just a drive thru away?!
