Everyone knows the saying "dogs are a man's best friend." It's commonly used to describe and emphasize the companionship and loyalty that dogs provide. However, there is much more truth and depth to it than that. Here are nine reasons why dogs actually make the best friends.

1. They will always be excited to see you.

Every day when you walk in, your dog will come bounding up to greet you (if they weren't waiting by the door already). Tail wagging, slobbery tongue flopping from their mouth, they'll be panting with excitement whether you were gone for 10 hours or 10 minutes.

2. They will never stay mad at you for more than a few minutes.

When it comes to dogs, messes and accidents are inevitable. Whether they didn't make it outside or they chewed a hole in the couch cushion, disasters will happen and chances are, you won't appreciate it. No matter how mad you get at your dog and how fiercely you scold them, they will always come sulking back with those irresistible puppy dog eyes. Their grudges last as long as cheap chew toys.

3. They will happily help you with your chores.

Well, they probably wouldn't be much help with vacuuming or laundry. But they will always be overjoyed to help clean the dishes. No matter how much food is left on the plate, they will work and work at it until it is spotless-guaranteed. And the best part? They do it free of charge. On a side note – a followup wash with dish soap is recommended.

4. They always know how to cheer you up.

Anyone who has ever had a dog knows that they definitely have the ability to sense when their owners are sad, and they always know exactly what to do to help. Providing a furry shoulder to cry into and a sloppy kiss on the cheek remedies even the most critical cases. And, lets face it, cuddling with a shaggy canine beats out another person any day of the week.

5. They will encourage you to exercise.

Okay, maybe "encourage" isn't the right word. But they will drag you out of bed and out the door at the crack of dawn for a groggy jog down the block. And you just know they won't stop pestering until you throw their tennis ball one more time.

6. They improve your social life.

We're all guilty of walking up to a stranger and asking to pet their dog. If you're ever in the mood to make friends, simply take your dog for a walk along a popular street. People will flood in to pet your dog, ask its name, age, and favorite pastime. If you're lucky, they'll ask yours, too.

7. They make the best listeners.

On one of those days where nothing goes right and you just need to vent about everything, your dog will always be there for you. They won't say a word, they won't try to give you advice or tell you you're overreacting. They will simply let you explain everything that went wrong, and listen free of judgement.

8. They always look out for you.

Even the smallest dogs think they are big when it comes to protecting their owners. No matter the threat, your dog will always defend you. The safety and happiness of their owner matters more than anything to them, and they'll never want anything or anyone to hurt you.

9. They will love you unconditionally.

There's a reason dogs are man's best friend. They will always be faithful, comforting, compassionate, entertaining and they will never leave your side. Whatever happens, they won't give up on you. Their universe revolves around you. And no matter the size, breed, age, or gender, your dog will always love you ten times more than they love themselves.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
