This article is dedicated to anyone who has been affected by cancer in any way.
Cancer. A word that can ruin someone’s day just by hearing it. Well I have a few words for you, cancer.
Dear Cancer,
You’re one of the worst things in the world. It’s hard to even put feelings into words. But to sum it up, I hate you, cancer. It’s that simple. You’ve taken people away from me and caused everyone so much grief. You can ask anyone and I’m sure they’ve heard of you. You destroy families and friends. You’ve taken mothers, fathers, sisters, and brothers. You don’t discriminate. You don’t care if someone is good, bad, old, or young. You’ve affected so many people in the world it’s unfair. Over the years, you’ve become a household name, but not a good one at that. There’s one thing I have to tell you though. You will never win.
Guess what, cancer? We’re fighting you. Each day more drugs are being designed to weaken and kill you. I don’t know anyone that’s cheering you on, so give up already. I can’t wait for the day that the world will no longer know you. The day you can no longer affect people. The day everyone can finally say that we’ve cured the beast. That will be a day to remember.
I’ll never forgive you, cancer. You’ve taken people from me that can never be replaced. Honestly, I don’t understand why you exist. When do you plan to clean up the mess you have made? You at least owe people that. I’ve been told to always find the good in things, but there is nothing good about you. Go away you pesty fool.
To those who have battled cancer, you’re a hero. I admire you more than you’ll ever know. I honestly don’t know what I would do if I was in your place. You have so much courage, strength, and hope. I didn’t know what bravery was until I met you. Despite everything that you’re dealing with, you continue to push through. You really are a superstar.
But you'll never be able to win, cancer. Too many people are working against you just to let you win. Families, friends, nurses, and doctors just to name a few. You may be able to claim people’s lives, but you’ll never take their dignity or hope. I know this is true. I’ve met so many wonderful people that you’ve affected, who continued to live their life to the fullest despite of you. It’s about the fight within the person, the ability to see the good in life. So I’m sorry, cancer. You can try to take the person, but you can never fully take them away. They will never be forgotten. Their legacy and memories will live on forever.
So let me tell you this cancer. It’s over. Nice try, but you don’t stand a chance. Get lost.
