First they freed the American hostages during the Iran Hostage Crisis of 1981. Then they provided a safe haven for thousands of passengers on-board northeastern airplanes during 9/11. Now, the Canadians are back at it, doing what they do best: just being nice.
Canadian advertising company The Garden started a campaign called Tell America It's Great "to be there for a friend or neighbour in need, regardless of any differences that may exist." Clearly one of these differences is how we spell "neighbor" (hint: there's no u).
"It’s no secret that America is going through a hard time right now," The Garden stated on their campaign website. "The election has exposed some pretty scary realities that will likely challenge them for years to come, regardless of who’s elected. They’ve been bombarded with a tremendous amount of negativity and it’s likely that for many of them, the immediate future seems rather bleak."
Bummer. Maybe Canada will let us start anew in the land of moose and maple syrup?
Even The Garden was impressed with the turnout of the project. Millions of Canadians on the campaign website and other social media platforms politely pointed out some of the things that they admire about the United States.
"From music, movies and sports, to innovations in science and technology, space travel and medicine, to food, culture and even retail stores and social media platforms. The list of America’s positive influence and impact was impressive and when you stop to consider it, you start to realize just how much good they bring to our everyday lives," an official statement from The Garden says.
Those hockey-loving hosers are just now realizing this? Well, in their defense, the U.S. and Canada have been rather busy making fun of each other for the past hundred years or so.
