Though country music sometimes gets a bad rap from people who are not interested in any “honky-tonk” singers who wear ripped jeans and drive trucks, Cam is a relatively new singer/songwriter with a talent for words and a beautiful voice. I would advise anyone who loves music to give country a chance, especially Cam. Her lyrics and music are refreshing.
Camaron Ochs shortened her name to Cam in 2012. Born in 1984, her “country roots” began with her grandparents who owned a ranch in southern California. Cam grew up in Lafayette, California, and after obtaining a degree in psychology from college, she decided to move to Los Angeles to give her music career a shot. She sang on many occasions in college, forming an a cappella group and learning to play the guitar on a trip to the Netherlands. She also learned to sing many songs in multiple languages. Blessed with a gifted voice, Cam’s music consists of mostly country, with a flair of pop. She released her first album, "Heartforward," in 2010.
In 2013, she moved to Nashville and was financed to record her own songs through Kickstarter. A hit single from 2013, “Down This Road,” is now available on iTunes. In 2014, she toured nationally with Dan + Shay on their Where It All Began tour. Though Cam didn’t have a record deal, she self-released recordings of songs digitally until the spring of 2015, when she finally signed a record deal with Sony Music Entertainment’s country division, Arista/Nashville RCA records. She released her four-song album, "Welcome to CAM Country," last year. These songs are “Burning House,” “Half-Broke Heart,” “My Mistake,” and “Runaway Train.” Her song “Burning House” received a nomination from the 2016 Grammy Awards and she performed it live on "The Bobby Bones Show," which attracted a lot of attention to her.
Recently, on December 11, 2015, her new album "Untamed'' was released, and it became the highest selling debut country studio album of 2015. Not only is Cam an up-and-coming country artist, but she is also a talented singer/songwriter every music fan should listen to.
