The wedding has been called off. People are upset, but I am so relieved. I do not have to stress about everything coming together. I do not have to stress about things looking good. I do not have to stress about decorations or cake or anything at all. I don't have to stress. I don't need stress. I am a happier person without a wedding.
I am not your average girl, nor have I ever really been your average girl. I have never been the type of girl who does things to impress other people. I do things for me. I don't fix my hair every day. I rarely wear make up. Why did I ever decide to have a wedding? The reason is it was expected from every single person. What is wrong with eloping? The truth is from the very beginning, I have always wanted only a few things from a wedding. I wanted a nice dress, a good photographer and most importantly to marry my best friend and love of my life.
This is the reason I called it off. From the beginning I had suggested eloping. I just wanted to run away and get married, but I am more logical than that. I knew we did not have that option. School means the only times we can run off and get married are Christmas break and summer break. Since we both have jobs over the summer that we are very excited about, August was our only real choice.
People, lots of people with their expectations, started in. I even talked to some people about it. They all told me that I would regret eloping. "You have to have a wedding," they would insist. "You'll regret not having a wedding." I questioned it, and I really thought that I wouldn't miss a thing, but how hard can planning a wedding be if you don't really care about anything? Turns out wedding planning is the worst possible job. Every time I started working on wedding plans, I would get stressed out. I had to make decisions about things I didn't care about. I had to find out information that didn't really matter to me. I didn't care what we provided guests to drink. I didn't care how many guests we had or if anyone showed up at all. This is why I cancelled the wedding. All of my needs will still be met, I will get to marry the love of my life. I will get to dress up and look beautiful and I will get someone to take pictures. I won't have a wedding, but I will marry my best friend. Sorry to all those who are disappointed in me, but this is the one time I deserve to be happy. I deserve to have exactly what I want on this one occasion, and that is what I am planning.
