I am a born and raised California girl. I like surfing in the summer and snowboarding in the winter. I spend as much time as possible at the beach and think that 60 degrees is freezing. If you told me 4 years ago that I would call a city in Texas home, I would have laughed in your face. I was brought home from the hospital to the house my parents still live in. I've had the same room my whole life, same chair at the kitchen table, and the same spot on the couch. Oh, and I hate change.
The word "home" has now changed for me. After spending almost 9 months a year in a different state, I now call Fort Worth home. But, I also call the city my parents live in home. I've now lived in three different places in Fort Worth and my current house is no my real home. Even though it still seems like I am playing house some days, the house I will be living in for the next two years is my first real house. I have to take the garbage cans out every Tuesday night and change the batteries in the smoke alarms. All of the things my parents or landlords have done for me before are now my responsibility.
I also call Fort Worth home because I love the city in general. When I want to go for a run, I go to the Trinity River. When I want to go to a trendy new restaurant, I go to West 7th. When I want to treat myself to a nice dinner or want to do some people watching, I go downtown. When I want to remember that I am in Texas, I go to the stockyards. When I want a good cup of coffee or a place to study, I go to Magnolia. Fort Worth has everything you could possibly want in a city. There are so many different areas that each have their own unique atmosphere. The people in Fort Worth are incredibly friendly and laid back.
Even though I can't figure out which direction is which because I don't see the ocean or mountains as a frame of reference, I love Fort Worth. Now I have two amazing cities that I am lucky enough to call home.
