It’s an overcast August morning here in NYC. I’m looking for a place to have a hot cup of coffee, and to get some work done (writing this article). Where should I go? Fortunately for me, I live on the Upper East Side and there are so many cute cafes that I can go to. I would love to try them all, but being that I only drink coffee once a week I decided to do something fun. Introducing…”Cafe In The Spotlight”.
Every Saturday/Sunday morning, I will go to a new cafe and have my cup of coffee and write an article about the charming little cafe that I am in! The way I see it, it’s a win win! I get to have my coffee (a once a week occurrence) and all my readers (however many there are of you) can hear about some new hot spots around New York City!
So the first cafe is called The York Social. It is located between 80th and 81st and York, a stone’s throw from the East River. I walked in and the first thing that I saw was the insane pastry situation they had behind the counter. Already so into it. Then I thought to myself, “Emily you don’t eat gluten!” UGH then I saw it: a gluten free cookie option. I was sold. I ordered my drink — an almond milk latte “for here.” Another plus about The York Social, they have milk substitutes. I don’t eat/drink dairy either so if I’m having coffee only once a week yo better believe that it’s going to the best damn cup of coffee!! I had a seat on the plush purple couches that they have and patiently awaited for my latte. I heard the milk steamer and couldn’t contain my excitement. The kind barista brought me my drink in a white ceramic mug. That was a plus because I love a good mug.
I started drinking my coffee and the words just started to flow. I loved this place already. Very good flow of customers, and a wide variety of drinks and treats. It has a very modern feel, but at the same time, very cozy and intimate. I was so into the vibes that this place had to offer that I didn’t even realize that it was truly raining sideways outside, bummer I guess I’ll have to stay longer. I guess the people walking in soaking wet should’ve been a hint?
Coming from a family of small business owners, I always try to avoid chain coffee places and give my business to a more unique and personal place. I can’t imagine it’s easy being a small business owner here in Manhattan so more power to cafe’s such as The York Social which is located right next door to a Starbucks. My experience was great, and I look forward to coming back here for one of those yummy gluten free cookies ;) Stay tuned for next weeks find… FYI it’s still raining, so I think I’ll have another latte!
