If you're anything like me, you probably like to organize your thoughts, plans, ideas, homework and grocery lists all in the same place. In search of something that would help me do this, I've tried plenty of different notebooks, planners, dry erase boards, you name it.
I've recently come across something called bullet journals. Instead of having a planner with just the days of the week in it, bullet journals consist of everything under the sun, and you can pretty much-put anything in them. Bullet journals have personal customization. If you don't like the layout of one week, you can just choose a different layout for the next.
They can be a sketchbook, a diary, a planner or even just a to-do list. For example, my own personal bullet journal contains both weekly and monthly calendars, monthly events, weekly schedules, workout schedules, food logs and even my own self-care tips for the spring semester.
If this interests you, there are a couple of different things that you'll need to get started:
- A Moleskine, planner, journal, or a binder with paper.
- I like using a spiral ringed sketchbook, but I've heard that gridded notebooks work very well for this kind of analog system
You can find this spiral ringed sketchbook on Amazon.
- Colored markers, pens, highlighters, pencils
- I'm a big fan of using black pens (how boring), and different color highlighters
Try using this Bullet Journal starter pack, complete with pens and stencils, available on Amazon.
- Post-it notes, both small and large
- To write down all those little sub notes we all think we will remember and then forget and want to kick ourselves in the butt later for not writing it down. These are also good for keeping track of what page is what and where in your journal. You can use them as a tab for each page or pages that you wish to section off.

The tricky part for me was finding and creating a layout that I found both easy to repeat and aesthetically pleasing. The best part about this if you don't like one layout, you can just pick another for another week.
Personally, I'm very artistically challenged when it comes to anything. Below are some layout inspiration links that could help all those people like me who did not get that artsy gene. Every layout is different. You can have a cool and funky layout for daily tasks, and a sleek and casual layout for the entire month. The possibilities are endless.
And that's basically it! The goal is to fill the journal with everything that you would ever need. Everyone is different and everyone likes different styles of organization, so have fun and just do what works for you. Remember you can always change it up next week!
