Over the past few weeks I have noticed a constant flow of disappointment and disgust on social media with our two primary candidates for President, Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton. This election has been the most unique (I say unique for lack of a better word) election I have ever witnessed , as I am sure is the case for many. While every election seems to have its issues, the major issues with this election seem to be the candidates selected by each Party. Both candidates are currently polling below 50 percent approval rates, some of the lowest polling numbers in history.
The candidates are also causing a divide within the two Parties. The Republican Party has Trump supporters and the Never Trump supporters while the Democratic Party is either "with her" or against her. Americans are fearing what will happen if either candidate is elected President. With the fate of America resting in the hands of all voters, everyone is weighing their options more now then ever before. This election season will go down in history because of the two most controversial candidates in history. Do we as Americans feel that Trump or Hillary is a viable candidate to become our next President?
The negative with Trump:
Many Americans are worried because of how his campaign has been run thus far. Trump has not held anything back, from building a wall to keep out immigrants from Mexico to cursing during debates. Trump is definitely a candidate that is different then any other republican candidate before him. Another issue that many people have with Trump is the way he talks to others and his lack of a filter. He has said many racist, sexist, offensive comments during his campaign that degrade almost anyone who is not a white man. Also, he has absolutely no political experience. You don't just give someone who shops at Walmart the keys to the store and tell them to run it. Just because they shop their doesn't mean they will be able to run it. If he was running for something smaller like Mayor or even Governor that would be more appropriate, but not President.
Does anyone else feel like this is still a prank? I remember everyone laughing and thinking that this was a joke when Trump first announced he was running. Now, it seems like half of America fears what he'll do if elected and the rest want him in the White House. If Trump can't unite the Republican Party then what makes him think he can unite America? Also, what will happen if Trump get's elected as President?
The negative with Hillary:
Let's be honest, Hillary is laughing in this picture because the FBI let her off with a slap on the wrist. She got away with leaking government information through her private email server. If this would have been anyone else they would have been to prison regardless if it was intentional or not. But this is Hillary we are talking about. She is the most powerful woman in America right now so she can do whatever she wants and gets away with it. That's one of the major issues Americans have with Hillary, we can't hold her accountable and therefore we can't trust her. Nobody wants a President they don't trust. Many people don't think she should have even been able to receive the nomination because of the scandal.
There are also many people from both Parties that just do not want to see another Clinton in the White House. Like the Republican Party, if Hillary can't unite the Democratic Party then why does she think she can unite America? What is going to happen if we let her run our great country?
So what are we going to do?
I have heard people say numerous times that they are going to vote for the lesser of the two evils, some think that's Hillary and some say it's Trump. Voting for the lesser evil is still electing a President who is not right for the job. We need to open our minds to the possibility that maybe it is time for neither a Democrat or a Republican to take office. Maybe we should start looking to Third Party candidates like the Libertarian Party nominee Gary Johnson or the Green Party nominee Jill Stein to become our next President. While they are still low in the polls, both are quickly gaining support with Johnson currently on the ballot on all 50 states and Stein on 27 states. The problem with a third party candidate is that we have never elected one to the White House so it would be something new and different, which scares many Americans. So is it finally time for America to elect a third party candidate to the White House? Seems like only time will tell.
All in All:
This election needs to stop being one of hate. The candidates need to start focusing on their own demons before attacking each other. Americans needs to hear what the candidates are going to do for us instead of hearing about how one is a bully and the other is not visual attractive (traits which can be interchangeable between the two candidates). We need to focus on politics and healing, not attacking and name calling. America, November is fast approaching and this election has the capabilities to change our lives forever. Don't sit back and just let it happen, go out and vote. And never forget to support the candidate that you believe is the best candidate for President: Trump, Hillary, Stein or Johnson.
