Brock Turner's Lenient Prison Sentance Is No Big Deal
Wikipedia

"Only 3 out of every 100 rapists will ever spend a single day in prison, according to RAINN of justice department data. The other 97 will walk free, facing no consequences for the violent felony they have just committed."

This is a staggering and unbelievable statistic, but it still stands. So, rapist Brock Turner, your rape case was clearly no big deal. And apparently to our justice system, none of these cases were a big deal either. The information mentioned throughout this article was found here.

2007:Stacy Rambold

-This high school teacher raped one of his students. This student, she killed herself before the trial, so even though Rambold PLEADED GUILTY TO RAPE, there was not enough evidence and the judge settled to dismiss the whole case if he attended treatment, as if you could treat being a rapist. Rambold was kicked out of treatment which led to the case going back to court, where he did receive a 15-year sentence. The judge suspended this sentence and instead gave him 31 days in prison. After all, isn't 31 days all it takes to just stop being a rapist?

2009:Robert Richards IV

- Richards raped his 3-year-old daughter. What punishment did he receive? Well, at first he was supposed to receive an 8-year sentence...which ended in a suspension of that sentence...which ended up with him just receiving probation. This rapist got off all because of the judge said that the defendant "will not fare well behind bars." So he had to register as a sex offender and that's that. Just a little slap on the wrist and he's on his merry way, free to rape another little girl as he pleases.

2012:Jose Arragia Soto Jr.

-Accused of beating and raping a woman, Soto pleaded guilty and he was convicted of 1st-degree criminal sexual misconduct. He was supposed to serve a 12-year sentence in jail but the judge, out of the super sweet kindness of his heart, reduced it to 30 years of only probation because he thought he seemed to be "A good candidate for remediation." Even though the assault went on for two hours, involved two men, and the girl was strangled, bitten, slapped, and had proof of numerous other injuries. Wow, a rapist that is a good candidate for remediation, never heard that one before.

2013:Austin Smith Clem

-Clem was found guilty of raping the same woman 3 different times. He was given 40 years altogether, but the way the judge wrote out his sentence made it so that he would only actually be going to prison if he violated his probation. Clem was wild and free to live comfortably in his home but had to check in with his probation officer every week. Clem's defense attorney said "It would seem to be relatively mild. But Clem's life over the next six years is going to be very controlled..If he goes to a party and they're serving beer, he can't say, 'Can I have one?'..It's not a slap on the wrist." Oh, poor man. He rapes a woman just three times and instead of going to prison he just can't have a beer at a party for a few years. Hard life.. Seems like a mild punishment for someone with three counts of rape on their record.

2014: Sir Young

-Even after admitting he raped a 14-year-old girl, the judge let him off with only 5 years of probation. When the judge was questioned on Young's lenient sentence that he had handed out, some of the reasons she replied with was that "the girl had texted Young and wanted his attention." and that she "had 3 previous sexual partners." As if wanting attention or having sex with other people makes a case of rape invalid.

2015: Thomas Boden

-Boden's girlfriend at the time had accused him of sexually assaulting her daughter of just two years old. The hospital confirmed that the two-year-old girl had been obviously violated and her 4-year-old sister was there for the actual attack. He pleaded guilty and was given just a 10-year sentence. Ten years for raping a 2-year-old girl? You deserve much more than that if you ask me. The prosecutor who got the deal said that he did it in order "to spare the young girls from appearing in court." Right..that's why you did it.

2016: Mark Thompson

-An instructor and former Marine Major at the United States Naval Academy, accused of rape by not one, but two female students. He was sentenced to 60 days in jail and received a fine but amazingly he was actually allowed to go back and continue to be an officer. He appealed the case and the charges were dropped, but he is now being re-examined after it came out that he lied multiple times under the oath. Seems justified to me.

2016:Brock Turner

-Turner raped an unconscious woman behind a dumpster. We all know how this story ends. He was given just a 6 month jail sentence, which was reduced to 3 months because the judge believed "a prison sentence would have a severe impact on him." You mean, kind of like the severe impact that the rape of that woman is having on her? So, he isn't enjoying his steaks and swimming a goddamn pool, so what?

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.
