Stop believing that rape doesn't and can't happen. Just stop it from happening.

If you don't know who Brock Turner is, that means you have probably been living under a rock. Brock will go down in history, and stand out like a sore thumb in our society; for being freed early for rape. Turner isn't the first rapist to have walked free or received a "slap on the wrist." Turner was originally sentenced to 6 months in jail but only completed 3 months. Brock Is the biggest proof of white privilege and "justified rape." Turner and the justice system have proven just how corrupt the justice system STILL is. Numerous cases have ended up going the same route that Brock's did. Still, in this day and age, many people dismiss the fact that many men, women, and children become victims of this disgusting crime.

In the last few days, numerous rapes cases have appeared, each showing the same thing; victims getting no justice, Rapist getting away with their crimes. A white male cop convicted of rape ended with him getting 3 years of Probation and nothing more, for the rape of a new mother in front of her newborn baby. That is a horrible and deprived incident for anyone let alone that it happened in front of her child. No case should allow for a criminal when found guilty, to get with such a thing. This isn't something that can just be pushed to the side. Rape is something that can happen to anyone and can be committed by anyone. Too Many people believe that only women are rape victims and that they could be asking for it. NO ONE IS EVER ASKING TO BE RAPED. Justifying any rape or form of sexual assault should be itself a crime. Whether or not that person was willing, if they say no or become unwilling then all contact should END. Period.

In feminist theory, "Rape Culture" is a setting in which rape is pervasive and normalized due to societal attitudes about gender and sexuality. Victim blaming, rape myths and trivialization of rape have been found to be positively correlated with many types of discrimination. You are more likely to be sexually assaulted and/or raped by someone you know than a stranger. Many accounts tell of women, not just men. Rape happens everywhere, at home, in schools, and behind closed doors.

Crush rape culture by educating yourself and others. If you see something, say something. Please speak up for the victims that can't speak for themselves. I truly believe that knowledge can end many of the problems in this world. If we can educate each other, maybe we'll be able to end the injustice.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.
