If you are ever to do one truly amazing thing in your life, go see a Broadway play in New York City. Wether you think you like the theater or not, it is an event that you will never forget. I remember my first Broadway experience; it happened over spring break when I went with my mom to go see the amazing production of Les Miserables. It was absolutely breathtaking. The acting was superb; the orchestra and the singing were absolutely gorgeous; and the set itself was so intricate and meticulous that you could practically envision all the hard work and labour that went into it.
There is such a large thrill that goes into seeing a play on Broadway. It's not like seeing your run-of-the-mill-school or community plays, or even seeing a play at places like the Boston Opera House; it's so much more than that. When in New York City, you already tend to feel like a kid in an abnormally large candy store. The bright lights of Time Square, the larger than life buildings, the outrageous number of shops that line sidewalk after sidewalk. It's a whole other ball game when you're in the Big Apple in another article it is said that "Broadway shows are one of the most popular tourist attractions in New York City. In 2010, Broadway shows sold more than $1 billion in tickets!" ( Wonderopilis ) That being said, Broadway plays a huge part in that excitement. What with it's bright lights and it being almost every play actor and actresses dream to be in one of the numerous plays. Many people hold dear to their hearts such classics as The Phantom of the Opera, Les Miserables, Chicago and so many more.
Each play is so different and unique, making them tough to compare to one another as each has their own strengths and followings. The experience of seeing a play in New York city is truly mesmerizing. First you have the anticipation of seeing it. If you're like me, you leave your hotel an hour or two early because you get so excited for a first time experience of seeing such a prestigious play in such a famous area. Next is the waiting. The waiting is probably the hardest part because you are just so excited to see this play that waiting any longer makes your excitement and anticipation almost double and bubble over.
Once the waiting ends and your ushered into your seats all that's left is to wait for those lights to flash on and off and you are in a completely different world. When those lights go out and that orchestra begins to play you know that you are in for the journey of a lifetime, and the best part is you don't even have to leave your seat all. Kaiylyn Terlato writes in her article for Examiner, "I had no idea the depths and emotional twists and turns that a Broadway musical could possess." And it's true, the feeling and emotions that these superb and extremely professional actresses and actors portray to you is so raw and real. Because of how deeply they have submerged themselves into their characters and the performance itself it ultimately gives the audience a once in a lifetime event to see. You may not be able to take any pictures , but the fact is you don't need to because of how strong and how everlasting that the imagery these people have created for their audience.
So, I say to you, go see a Broadway play. Go see one right now, or whenever the opportunity presents itself to you. It is an experience you will never forget;an experience that will leave you grinning from ear to ear when watching it and remembering it. I know it's an experience that will always be dear to my heart and my memories. I hope it is the same for you if you ever get the chance of seeing a captivating play, in an absolutely gorgeous theater, in a larger than life city.
