In my short time here, college has given me some of my best friends, some unforgettable experiences, memories I will cherish forever and an education that many do not have the privilege to get. I just wanted to say farewell to one of the craziest years of my life.
Farewell, dorms. As awful and smelly as they were, I would never trade the life-experience they has given me. It has made me realize how privileged I am. I appreciate the smaller things in life now. Without this experience, I do not think I would have grown as much as I did. Being placed in a small community with people the same age, going through the same thing as you is very rewarding. We get through midterms, papers and finals together all while figuring ourselves out. It doesn't matter where we came from because we all ended up in the same hall, under the same roof. Although we are all going our separate ways, we will always be connected by the four walls that surrounded us our freshman year. I will miss the late nights talking in the hall. I will miss the laughs and shouts after past quiet hours no matter how obnoxious it was. I will miss the comfort of knowing my best friends are just a few doors down. As easy as it is to complain about the dorms, I like to look at it as a blessing in disguise. My freshman year would not be the same without the dorm experience.
Farewell my new best friends (for now). Coming into freshman year, you worry about fitting in and making new friends. Thankfully, I found friends who accept me for me and who I love being around. I have such talented friends whom I learn from every single day. They never fail to make me laugh until I cry. They never fail to send the best snaps while watching "Family Feud" with me. We are more like a family than friends. I am so appreciative that my freshman year has given me some of the greatest people that I have ever met. The most important thing is to surround yourself with people who support you and love you. I have thankfully found those people. I will see you all next semester as we tackle our sophomore year together.
Hello to my friends and family back home. I have missed you all so much. I couldn't have gotten through this year without you. College is a big change, and it was always reassuring to know that I had a piece of home with me every step of the way. I always knew that I could go to you all for advice, and a pick me up when things were getting tough. Sometimes you were even my motivation. If I didn't believe in myself, you always believed in me. You always gave me that push to go and try new things. I wouldn't have gotten through this year without your help. I cannot wait to get back home to spend lost time with you all. Thank you to my friends and family for always being by my side.
Farewell to school (again, for now). I know I have much more schooling to go, but I have already learned so much in my small time I've been at college. Going to college is a big deal in my family. A lot of people in my family have never went to college, so getting an education is something that is valuable to us. As much as doing homework isn't my favorite hobby, I know that expanding my knowledge is only going to help me and better me. Knowledge is power. I can't say I will miss school that much, but I am grateful to continue to get an education.
Farewell to my freshman year. I will cherish all the memories that this year has given me. I have stories that will last forever, stories that I will one day tell my children. It has been a whirlwind of emotions, but I wouldn't change it for anything. Life goes by way too fast, so cherish every moment. Farewell to my freshman year of college, but hello to all the new experiences coming my way.
