Midterms are here and we are obviously not okay. Here are 15 essential foods for brain function and memory retention. Head to Kroger ASAP and stock up on these foods, because honestly we need all the help we can get.

Red grapes 

Grapes decrease the risk of cognitive decline and are packed with antioxidants.

Green tea 

Green tea has caffeine which can help you stay alert. It also contains L-theanine, which helps with relaxation and memory retention.

Coffee 

Most everyone lives on coffee for the caffeine boost. But along with that initial boost of caffeine, coffee makes you more focused and efficient.

Spinach

Spinach is full of antioxidants and helps fight inflammation, specifically in the brain.

Turmeric 

Turmeric isn't that well known, but it is a yellow seasoning that helps improve memory and it also contains antidepressant properties.

Eggs 

Eggs contain an element choline, which has been found to boost the brains functioning.

Dark chocolate 

Dark chocolate is full of caffeine and antioxidants which help you stay focused and alert, while keeping the brain healthy.

Turkey

Turkey not only makes you sleep better, it also contains an amino acid that helps with dopamine levels in the brain, thereby improving memory and making you feel better.

Walnuts 

Walnuts are not only beneficial for your heart, they're also a major source of omega-3's, which are a fatty acids that help with brain function.

 Almonds 

Almonds don't contain omega-3's like walnuts, but they do have fatty acids that help with brain function.

 Salmon

Salmon, like walnuts, contains omega-3's, which improve the brains functioning.

 Oranges 

Oranges are full of vitamin C, which is a major brain boosting vitamin.

 Broccoli

Broccoli is not only good for your body but it's also full of vitamin K, which helps decrease inflammation.

 Blueberries 

Blueberries are also full of vitamin K and anti-inflammatory agents. Blueberries are also specifically proven to help improve memory loss.

 Strawberries 

Strawberries are packed with antioxidants that will help with inflammation and slow down the aging of the body and the brain.
