What's the perfect planner for you?

The House that Lares Built

For college students, planners are the most important things in the world. Seriously, if I lost my planner, I would have a breakdown. College is crazy—you have homework, tests, sports events, sorority/fraternity meetings, etc. You're over involved and in order to stay sane, you have a planner. Not everyone follows this golden life rule of always have a planner (my boyfriend did not see the need for a planner until I got him one as a Christmas gift). Whether you use your planner to plan your day hour by hour, use it just to write down the stuff that you'll forget (like those pesky dentist appointments), or if you use it more as a decorative journal, planners are a big part of a who a person is. You can open my planner and see who I am: the things I do everyday and the things I don't, what I spend the most time doing, who I spend the most time with, etc. So of course I get pretty giddy when summer rolls around because it means new planners! I've scoped out the best planners and I share them with you in the hopes that you can find the perfect one for yourself! Good luck!

Best Planners of 2016

1. Lilly Pulitzer Planner

Lilly is the top pick planner for ladies because it's fun. It's colorful, cute, and definitely chic. The planner is perfect for anyone who needs an easy going planner, but if you want to use it for everything, you should look elsewhere. I used a Lilly planner last year to plan out month by month work stuff and used the days in the week to make checklists for myself to make sure I stayed on track. It worked well for me like that, but I have outgrown Lilly as my everyday planner. The biggest win over for Lilly is that the planner comes in different sizes and different prints!

2. Erin Condren Life Planner

If you like to be organized, the Erin Condren Life Planner is your new baby. You can choose from vertical or horizontal layouts, colorful or neutral, and you can personalize it! The personalization is probably the tipping point for why it's an amazing planner! You can do so much with the Life Planner, including bling it out with all the cute stickers that Erin Condren sells. If you're looking for a lesson planner or wedding planner, Erin Condren can also hook you up!

3. Kate Spade Planner

Kate Spade is known as minimal, witty, and classy. Her planner isn't out of this world amazing, there is nothing especially special about it. It's simply black and white, weekly, and has fun quotes every month. I love Kate Spade planners for a different reason: they make it easy to color code or washi tape your planner. If you have all kinds of colors everywhere already in your planner, the washi tape and color coding gets lost, but with black and white, it pops and makes the planning easier. I used a Kate Spade Planner as my weekly planner this year (I'm going to continue to use it) and I have loved it. Like I said, it's simple. So it's perfect for a weekly planner.

4. Ban.do Planner

Ban.do is fun. That's how you describe their planners. There are quotes throughout the planner that make you smile. It's another simple weekly planner like Kate Spade and Lilly, but it's a mix between the two. If you want to color coordinate and washi, the Ban.do wouldn't be bad to use. It can easily be played up or down, whatever you prefer. It's easily one of my new favorite planners. There are lots of cute cover options, you can get a spiral or a classically bound, and you get two pages of stickers. Extra: you can personalize it with your initials! Yay! Needless to say, I bought one.

5. Simplified Planner

The Simplified Planner is a daily planner. One page per day, seriously! I know it can sound a little ridiculous, but each day has hourly times and a to-do list. It's very minimal, so it gives you a lot of freedom to choose how to use the space. They say on their website that, "it serves as a fresh start every day" and I really can appreciate that. If you're super into organizing your day and making lists, this is for you. It should be called the type-A planner.

6. Day Designer

The Day Designer is my favorite planner. I am currently using it as my daily planner and it is wonderful. Like the Simplified Planner, it is minimal, so color coding is a thing that can happen. It has hours from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m., which has come to be perfect. If you workout at 6 a.m. and you finish your meetings at 9 p.m. (which you should, if not I feel for ya!), it's perfect! It also has a to-do list on it that helps me move from day to day and see what has and has not been done. It's also much easier than sticky noting your to-do list everywhere. The Day Designer is actually goal-oriented and "keeps you organzied and on your way to living an intentional, meaningful, and well-designed life." #perfection

7. Passion Planner

I like Passion Planner because it's about something cool. It's about planning the life you love. It's a weekly, with hours and it has space for you to reflect about your week. It also has a monthly reflection page. This is why it's an amazing planner: it makes you think and it doesn't allow you not to reflect on how your goals, etc. are going.

8. Inkwell Live Planner

The Inkwell: it's like the Erin Condren, just more natural. It's very chill and I think that's what draws me to it. It's a weekly planner, you can do vertical or horizontal, etc. It also has goal planning, which is a plus. It also helps organize better than the Erin Condren because it has extra stuff, like a bills tracker and much more! Plus, you can add a weekly meal log or a fitness log! Go check it out!

9. Happiness Planner

I absolutely love my Happiness Planner. It really does help you think, reflect, and grow. I have an undated one, but they also make dated ones that are super cute. They come in nice pastel colors and they are chic. Add this planner to your life.

10. Rifle co. Planner

The Rifle Co. Planner reminds me of the Kate Spade planner: it is black and white on the inside (perfect for colorful planning!), and it's a weekly. The allure to the Rifle planner is probably the price over Kate Spade. It has a different vibe to it also, it's very hipster. I don't think I could ever pull off this planner, but you could!

11. Kikki.k Planner

I have never had a Kikki.k Planner, but it's on my list of planners to try out in the future. I've had my eye on it since I saw them on Pinterest two years ago. It's the perfect mix of cute and minimalism. You can choose from many different leather planners and you can choose the size! The pages that go in the planner are bought separately, so you can also choose the best insert for you!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
