An Open Letter To My Boyfriend
Jazlyn Rust

Hello love,

Well, it would seem you have found a liking for me. We have been through thick and thin and yet you have been here. Why? I'll never understand why you stick by me, why you tell me I am beautiful or why you chose me, but I am beyond blessed.

I know I may not always get things right and I will fail, but my love never will. Forever and always, although it seems far away, our future will be beginning quicker than we think. With this being said, this letter is my way of showing the world three of the big reasons why I love you.

My first reason is your smile. Oh my word, your smile. It lights up my day and gives me hope in the night because I know as long as you're smiling, everything will be okay. Sometimes you can’t smile and that is okay, because I can be yours.

You have four different kind of smiles: the fun one, the sad one, the performing one and the one when you see me. Your fun smile comes when we listen to music in the car and I just belt my heart out. You smile when I hit the high notes or when you actually know the words and even when we clap along to "Black Widow."

Your sad smile comes when your heart is breaking but you try and be strong for me. Sometimes I can't hold it together and you try and give me a smile to lighten up my day, but your eyes give me another story. Your performance smile comes when the house lights come down and the spotlight hits you.

As the music flows through you, your face lights up and there don't even need to be lights. Then comes the smile you give me. That love smile. You were gone for all of Christmas vacation and January, so when I knew you would be home I couldn't help but be excited. But when you walked in the room, the smile you had when you saw me wasn't just on your lips, but in your eyes.

This leads me to the next thing I love about you: the way you treat me. You never fail to hold me close when I need to cry and kiss me when I can’t stop giggling. When I can’t seem to find a nice word to say about myself, you find five. When I throw my hair in a ponytail and toss on sweatpants, you look me in the eyes and say I am the most beautiful girl you have ever seen.

I never have to worry if I am safe, loved or cared for, because you never cease to tell me. This is what makes us great; when I can’t carry myself, you carry me and never let me drag on the ground. Many guys have tried to handle me and they never have the tender touch you have; that is why you are the man for me.

The third thing I love about you is your passion. This isn’t just passion for me, but for your music. Sometimes I don’t need to be on the front lines to see your love for the music.

I stand behind stage or in the audience and watch as you unravel your passion in front of me. But you don’t even need to be on stage for me to see that. Whether in the practice room playing Adele, Bryan Adams and The Phantom of the Opera or drumming on the dash of your car, you feel the beat, and that is something that brings us together.

Music as a major all in itself is difficult, and some people forget that it is about the passion, but you never have. I am so proud to see your growth and your love, and I can’t wait to see the continuation of your lifelong musical journey.

These are only a few reason I love you. I could care less about the clothes you wear or the money in your wallet. All I care about is the smile on your face, the faith in your heart and your hand in mine. I love you, darling, forever and always.

Love,

A broken girl whom you love anyway

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
