Hunting is a predominately male sport. When I took my Hunter's Education Course at 8 years old, I was the only girl in the class. Now, almost 12 years later, women are finally beginning to make themselves known as hunters. If you’re lucky enough to know a woman who loves spending her time in the woods, you know that we have an immense amount of pride about being a hunter, but you also know that we can be easily frustrated. Here are seven ways that frustration comes about.
1. Not enough options for women's clothing.
We're tired of buying men's camouflage.
2. Women's clothing that fits like men's.
One of the worst feelings ever is finding clothes that are labeled as women's, only to try them on and realize they still gather in the same places and definitely aren't made for a woman. See #1.
3. Having too much pink camouflage.
Pink is a girly color. We get it. When it comes to hunting, though, we want to blend in with our surroundings and nothing in the woods is pink.
4. Assuming we don't like to dress nicely outside of hunting season.
Camo is not our color of choice.
5. "Did you really shoot that?"
No, my *insert relationship to male hunting partner’s name here* didn’t shoot it for me. Nothing is more insulting than someone doubting our hunting ability.
6. "Nice shot for a girl."
No one tells guys it was a nice shot “for a guy,” so why is it only a good shot for a girl? Would it not have been a good shot if a guy had made it?
7. “You're like one of the guys.”
Not saying. This should just be common sense.
Avoiding some of these is the best way to keep the woman hunter in your life happy. Trust me.
